FTE (Full-Time Equivalent): 100%
Schedule of Duties:10-Month
Salary: $82,000- $170,000 annual/salary depending upon level of education and experience
Position Purpose: The Student Success Specialist at SHS is a dedicated professional who provides academic and behavioral support for students in kindergarten through 5th grade. This individual works closely with students, teachers, counselors, and the Assistant Principal of Student Life to foster a positive, inclusive learning environment that supports students with diverse learning needs, including ADHD and other learning differences. The Student Success Specialist implements intervention strategies, collaborates with faculty, and ensures students receive the necessary support to thrive academically and socially.
Specific Expectations for P-8 Faculty: In addition to regular teaching responsibilities—such as curriculum planning, class preparation, grade reporting, report card narratives, parent-teacher conferences, supervision duties, classroom substitution, advisory, elective teaching, office hours, and participation in class trips—P-8 faculty are expected to contribute to the broader school community and support program growth. This includes building a strong sense of community for students, promoting a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement, engaging in professional development and training opportunities, and attending required meetings and events, such as Director’s Days, Open Houses, accreditation meetings, and class overnight trips, as directed by your supervisor.
Essential Functions
Student Support & Intervention
- Provide direct support to students exhibiting academic, social, or behavioral challenges.
- Develop and implement individualized strategies to support students with learning differences, including ADHD and executive functioning challenges.
- Monitor student progress and adjust interventions as needed to ensure growth and success.
Behavioral Support
- Assist in the development and implementation of Behavior Plans.
- Work with teachers to establish classroom strategies for managing behavioral concerns.
- Provide small-group and one-on-one behavioral support to students as needed.
- Act as a resource for students experiencing emotional or behavioral difficulties.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with the Lower School counselor and the Assistant Principal of Student Life to support students' overall well-being.
- Communicate regularly with teachers, parents, and administrators regarding student progress and interventions.
- Participate in student support team meetings and help develop action plans for struggling students.
Program Development & Implementation
- Assist in creating and implementing school-wide initiatives to support student success.
- Support the development of executive functioning and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) programs.
- Provide professional development opportunities for teachers on best practices for supporting diverse learners.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education, special education, psychology, counseling, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Educational Therapy certification preferred.
- Experience working with elementary-aged students, particularly those with ADHD and learning differences.
- Strong understanding of behavioral intervention strategies and executive functioning skills.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to build strong relationships with students, families, and faculty.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Response to Intervention (RTI) or Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).
- Knowledge of social-emotional learning frameworks and trauma-informed practices.
- Training in behavioral intervention strategies and positive discipline approaches.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Works effectively in a dynamic and occasionally high-pressure environment with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
- Demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality.
- May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
- Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled classroom environment and intermittently in outside weather condition including heat and cold typical to the Mid-Peninsula in the Bay Area.
- Be able to occasionally lift up to 40 lbs. and regularly travel safely and comfortably over a 63 acre campus.
- Available and willing to attend and work some evenings/weekends.
- Abide by the school’s current safety policies (ex: wearing masks, washing hands, etc.)
