Position Title Assistant Professor – Criminology
The Department of Sociology, Criminology, and Criminal Justice at Sacred Heart University (SHU) seeks applicants for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor position to increase the number of Criminology faculty and expand departmental offerings in criminology.
Responsibilities
Courses to be taught include Research Methods for undergraduate majors in Criminal Justice and Sociology, along with development and teaching of courses in Criminology. The person hired will advise undergraduate majors in Criminal Justice and Sociology. Tenure-Track faculty members are expected to engage in substantive service to the department, college, and university. Tenure-Track faculty are also expected to engage in scholarship activities, including presentation of research and publication of peer-reviewed articles as typical in the social sciences. Finally, opportunities exist to teach and/or serve on dissertation committees in the new Ph.D. program in Organization Development and Change housed within the department.
Qualifications
Candidates for this position must possess a Ph.D. in Criminology, Sociology, Criminal Justice, or a related field. A J.D. degree alone is not sufficient for this position. Prior teaching experience, particularly of Research Methods courses, is preferred. Evidence of publication or of a developed research agenda that will lead to publication while on the Tenure Track is expected.
