JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Principal and Department Chair, the educator will teach Spanish with a focus on Spanish Primary instruction. Responsibilities include developing and implementing engaging language curriculum, differentiating instruction to meet diverse student needs, and integrating cultural themes into lessons. The teacher will collaborate with the school faculty, communicate with parents, and ensure that all students’ educational needs are met during the absence of the regular classroom teacher.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Spanish Language, Education, or a related field.
- 2 years High School Spanish Language teaching experience. – OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the requirements listed above.
- Proficiency in the Spanish language, with native or near-native fluency.
- Experience teaching Spanish as a primary/first language in a High/Middle/Elementary school setting.
- Intermediate translation proficiency in the Spanish language
- Ability to foster an environment that promotes language acquisition, fluency, and cultural competence.
- Possess outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to understand, read/ write in English to follow basic instructions, and take direction from supervisors and clients.
- Ability to report to work obligations to support the department and may require work outside normal business hours, if necessary.
- Must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with Virtus/Safe Environment policy.
- Must reside on Oahu.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in education with graduate certificate in Spanish Language or a related field.
- 5 years High School Spanish Language teaching experience.
- Strong knowledge of content area curriculum and instructional methodologies.

KEY RESPONSIBILTIES:
1. Classroom Management 80%
- Supports student learning and development through written, verbal and hands- on coaching and modeling in a positive and supportive manner.
- Be responsible for the assigned students' instruction.
- Responsible for the immediate supervision and safety of students during class time, advisory, the assigned time of supervision duty, and on off-campus school excursions.
- Review and administer correction in cases of student misconduct.
- Maintain high standards of professional and personal conduct, including on-line presence.
- Communicate via email or phone with students only for school-related concerns.
Spanish:
- Foster an environment that promotes language acquisition, fluency, and cultural competence.
- Encourage students to communicate in Spanish through discussions, presentations, and projects.
- Create a classroom culture that reflects Hispanic/Latino cultures and traditions to deepen cultural understanding.
- Differentiate instruction to support native and heritage Spanish speakers in achieving literacy and academic language proficiency.
2. Administrative (10%)
- Keep accurate records of attendance and class work, submitting student evaluations, including report cards and grade updates, at scheduled times.
- Distribute and collect required forms, records, or correspondence.
- Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences.
- Develop schemes of work and lesson plans in line with curriculum objectives.
- Assess and record students' progress in Spanish Language proficiency and communicate results with the students, colleagues, and families.
3. Performs other related duties as assigned (10%)
- Serves as community relations liaison for company.
- Actively participates as an effective member of the team by completing assigned duties, accepting additional assignments or reassignments.
- Assist with seasonal peaks.
