b The Youth Workshop Facilitator is responsible for recruiting and engaging American Indian and Alaska Native youth to participate in a prevention program called Motivational Interviewing and Culture for Native American Youth (MICUNAY), through the Elevate Youth CA project. The facilitator will receive instruction on the curriculum and provide the curriculum through workshops (both virtual and in person) to youth ages 14-17 and 18-25. The facilitator will also provide mentoring and peer support.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Design and Planning: Develop workshop content, agendas, and learning materials to align with the desired outcomes and target audience. Place orders for materials (and food, if applicable), as well as secure a site if necessary.
  • Facilitation: Lead workshops by engaging participants through various interactive methods, encouraging discussions, and managing group dynamics. Ensure that workshops follow required procedures (e.g., sign-in sheets, surveys).
  • Coordination: Work with subcontractors to support them in facilitating workshops; assist in ordering materials, ensure that workshop procedures are followed, and attend workshops to assist as needed.
  • Communication: Clearly communicate workshop objectives, expectations, and guidelines to participants, ensuring a shared understanding.

  • Feedback and Evaluation: Collect participant feedback, evaluate workshop effectiveness, and make improvements for future sessions. Keep supervisor(s) informed of any concerns or challenges.

Experience & Qualifications
  • Must be between 18 and 25 years of age (funding source requirement)
  • Depending on the nature of the workshops, a solid understanding of the subject matter being presented.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, capable of creating a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Flexibility to adapt to different learning styles, participant backgrounds, and unexpected challenges during workshops.
  • Effective organizational and time-management skills to plan and execute workshops efficiently.

  • Interact with people in a professional and respectful manner, both verbally and in writing.
  • Some key skills in this area include active listening, clear verbal/written communication, empathy, compassion, cultural humility, conflict resolution, problem-solving, collaboration, time-management, advocacy, resilience, adaptability and adhering to ethical standards such as confidentiality.

Technology Skills
  • Basic computer literacy - be able to use a computer or laptop to complete needed tasks for a job.
  • Able to utilize technology tools for virtual sessions.

Position Qualification Preferences
  • Experience working with the American Indian/Alaska Native community.
  • Previous experience as a workshop facilitator or in a similar role, with a demonstrated ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Comfortable using technology to enhance workshop delivery and engagement.

Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are typical of those an employee will encounter while performing the primary functions of this job. Normal office conditions exist, and the noise level in the work environment can vary from low to moderate.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described are typical of those required by an employee to perform the primary functions of this job successfully. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk frequently, sit, bend, twist, talk, and hear. There are prolonged periods of sitting, keyboarding, reading, as well. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include reading, distance, computer, and color vision. Talking and hearing are essential to communicate with vendors, and staff.

Mental Demands

There are some deadlines associated with this position. The employee must also multi-task and interact with other team members.

Other Requirements
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Pass fingerprint clearance
  • Maintain annual negative TB test results on file
  • Pass a post-offer drug test
  • Possess and maintain a reliable vehicle with valid CA driver’s license and active auto insurance
  • Available to work evenings and weekends, as needed
  • Willing to travel, as needed (travel time could range from 30 - 50%)
