The Machine / Equipment Operator ensures that daily production requirements are met through the safe and efficient operation of equipment (skid steers), machines (Baler), or loaders. The operator is also responsible for conducting routine inspections, performing necessary maintenance, and adhering to safety protocols and operational guidelines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Handling Materials: Load and unload materials safely and efficiently by handling and transporting materials with safety precautions, utilizing proper lifting techniques, equipment, and being mindful of weight limits and potential hazards.
- Equipment Operation: Operate equipment according to training received to maximize production, while following all operational and safety procedures.
- Equipment Maintenance: Conduct regular equipment maintenance tasks such as cleaning, lubricating, and inspecting to ensure smooth operation, prevent breakdowns, and maintain equipment longevity.
- Adhere to Guidelines: Understand safety and quality guidelines on equipment being operated, including safety protocols, quality standards, and specific guidelines relevant to equipment being operated.
- Communication: Demonstrate effective communication skills by expressing ideas clearly, actively listening, and engaging in productive dialogue with colleagues, clients, or customers.
- Comprehension: Follow directions on load sheets carefully, complying with loading procedures, stacking guidelines, and other specific handing instructions.
- Reporting: Fill out production reports completely by including all necessary information required for each report to facilitate progress tracking, analysis, and decision-making.
- Work Environment: Maintain clean and organized work environment.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING
- One to two years of related experience
- Preferred
- Familiarity with basic hand tools and equipment used in metal recycling industry
- Preferred, not required
- Knowledge of different types of non-ferrous metals and their properties
- Preferred, not required
- Satisfactorily pass forklift/loader driving training program or demonstrate safe handling of equipment in an on-site test
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds at a time.
- Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms, legs, and moving the entire body. This will include balancing, lifting, walking, stooping, and carrying materials.
- Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and tolerate exposure to the elements of the environment: hot and cold, smells and noises unique to the plant.
- Must be able to operate machinery in all weather conditions and terrains.
- Must be able to visually inspect machines.
- Dexterity and accuracy as needed to operate testing equipment or gauges.
- Manual dexterity as needed to operate a variety of machinery and equipment.
- Must have enough manual dexterity and stability as required for precision work.
- Ability to maintain single-task focus and situational awareness.
- Excellent depth perception and reaction time.
- Visual acuity to follow hand signals, maintain logs, and inspect and maintain machinery.
- Must be able to wear protective equipment for eye/ear.
