About Safe Families for Children NYC: Safe Families for Children (SFFC) creates extended family-like support for families in crisis by mobilizing a network of compassionate volunteers committed to keeping children safe and families together. Our volunteers provide support and resources to isolated families, empowering parents to regain stability and care for their families. Together, we create a compassionate, extended family system that provides safety, hope, and resources in times of great need.
Position Overview: We are seeking a Development Officer (Major Gifts) to support the Director in the relationship-based fundraising strategy and identify key champions among our community of supporters. In this flexible role, the Development Officer will focus on growing our philanthropic efforts and fostering meaningful relationships that allow us to expand our mission—keeping children safe and families strong. You will drive engagement with new donors and stakeholders, ensuring that their gifts of time, talent, and treasure have a lasting, transformational impact on the lives of families in crisis. This development role is supplemental to the fundraising efforts of the Director, focusing on identifying new giving champions for both the NYC local chapter and expansion efforts in the Tri-State region.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Transformational Giving Strategy:
- Develop and implement a strategy to secure transformational gifts from individuals that align with Safe Families for Children’s mission.
- Focus on nurturing relationships with high-net-worth individuals and organizations who are passionate about family preservation and community-based support.
- Work closely with the NYC Chapter Director to create personalized giving opportunities and a major gifts program that inspires significant, long-term support.
2. Engage, Mobilize, and Steward Champions of Hope:
- Identify, cultivate, and engage key champions—volunteers, donors, and advocates—who are passionate about Safe Families for Children’s mission and can help amplify our efforts.
- Lead efforts to steward major donors and ensure that they are kept informed about the impact of their contributions on children, families, and the community.
- Develop and execute donor recognition initiatives that reflect the deeply personal and transformative nature of their support
Qualifications:
- Experience: Passion and/or experience in nonprofit fundraising or donor relations, with a proven track record in securing major gifts.
- Skills:
- Expertise in relationship-building, major gift solicitation, and stewardship.
- Strong ability to engage and inspire individuals and families with a passion for community
support and family stabilization.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to connect emotionally
with potential donors and champions.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a team.
Working Conditions:
- Full or Part-time role with flexible hours (ability to define hours based on seasonal giving and availability).
- Evening and weekend availability for donor meetings and events.
- Some local travel required for meetings, donor visits, and community events (NYC Tri-State area).
- Remote work, with occasional in-person meetings.
