What are the responsibilities and job description for the Regional Environmental Health & Safety Manager - CT & NY position at Safe Harbor Marinas?
The Regional EHS Manager provides consistent leadership and day-to-day technical support for the ongoing evaluation, development, and implementation of the Safe Harbor EHS program in the CT & NY Regions. Provides direction and feedback to site EHS Coordinators and General Managers/RVPs in the implementation of their EHS programs in the Region.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Under direction of the Safe Harbor Vice President of EHS Programs, supports the establishment and maintenance of a comprehensive companywide EHS program.
- Review Clean Marina programs and establish/maintain certification through execution of state’s best management practices, permits, and regulations
- Assist with local and state environmental permit applications, grants, and bookkeeping
- Implements SHM EHS Standard Operating Procedures, reference guides and manuals.
- Provide training, technical oversight and guidance for SHM site EHS Coordinators at over 20 locations.
- Evaluate and update employee training requirements for SHM job categories, based on hazards and regulatory requirements. Manage Learning Management System (LMS) content for the various categories.
- Facilitate Safety Committees at the Regional and Site levels.
- Facilitate timely and effective accident/incident and near miss reporting and investigation, including root cause investigations and safety bulletins. Continually improve hazard control strategies.
- Perform the following services for SHM locations, and maintain the required documentation and records:
- Fork Truck operator training and certification
- First Aid/CPR/AED training and certification
- Hazardous Waste Management (RCRA and DOT) training
- Respirator fit testing and training
- Annual EPA Tier II reporting
- SPCC and Stormwater Plan training and oversight
- Other duties as required
- Based on experience and personal interest, act as the company’s Subject Matter Expert (SME) and Trainer in an EHS subject of high importance to SHM operations such as Hoisting, Stormwater, Scaffolding, Powered Industrial Vehicles, Fire Safety, Emergency Response Plans etc.
- Participate in monthly live or virtual meetings with site managers and EHS Coordinators in the Region. Maintain records of the meetings.
- Maintain a proactive relationship with Federal, State and local Environmental and Occupational Safety regulators.
- Maintain EHS related records and reports, including deployment of web and cloud based information management systems.
- Travel required up to 45%

Safety and Environmental Responsibilities
- Follow SHM safety and environmental rules and complete required related training
- Wear proper personal protective equipment as required for the task or work area
- Report all accidents, injuries, spills and near misses immediately
Technical and Physical Requirements
- Associate’s Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Sciences or the equivalent experience is preferred.
- 3-5 years’ relevant industrial or maritime EHS experience preferred.
- Currently licensed or able to license as a Certified Pesticide Applicator in category 5d (antifouling paint application) in the state of New York and able to provide pesticide application apprentice training to property staff.
- Excellent understanding of OSHA (maritime and general industry) and EPA (air, water, waste) regulations and industry standards.
- An enthusiastic trainer, with an ability and willingness to become certified as:
- OSHA 10 (Maritime or General Industry) Outreach Trainer
- Forklift and Industrial Powered Vehicle Trainer
- Shipyard Competent Person (SCP)
- First AID/CPR trainer
