What are the responsibilities and job description for the VP Environmental Health & Safety position at Safe Harbor Marinas?
The VP of EHS leads and manages the Safe Harbor Marinas international EHS Department, providing consistent leadership and day-to-day technical support for the ongoing evaluation, development, and implementation of the Safe Harbor EHS program. Responsible for ultimate compliance of all Safe Harbor Marina activities with relevant Federal, State and Local EHS regulations and standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership:
• Develop and implement Safe Harbor’s EHS strategy and goals.
• Oversee the EHS Department, including staff recruitment, management, training, and development.
• Facilitate Senior Leadership commitment, open communication, employee involvement, and proactive hazard identification to foster a strong safety culture.
• Represent the company on EHS matters with external stakeholders, including industry organization and regulatory agencies.
Program Development:
• Develop policies, procedures, programs and systems to help ensure compliance with all applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations.
• Identify, assess, and develop strategies to mitigate new or changing EHS risks.
• Evaluate and update Teammate training requirements for SHM job categories, based on hazards and regulatory requirements. Manage Learning Management System (LMS) content for the various categories.
Safety Culture:
• Promote a strong safety culture throughout the organization.
• Lead and coach Teammates at all levels on EHS matters.
• Communicate EHS information effectively to all levels of the organization.
Performance Management:
• Monitor and report EHS performance metrics.
• Identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure accurate and timely reporting of EHS data.
• Collaboration and Communication:
o Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure EHS goals are met.
o Communicate EHS information effectively to all levels of the organization.
• Serve as the company primary resource for EHS inquiries.
• Other duties as assigned by Manager
Technical and Physical Requirements
· A bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., environmental science, safety engineering, industrial hygiene) is required.
· A master's degree or professional certifications (e.g., Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Environmental Manager (CEM)) preferred.
· 10 years’ relevant industrial or maritime EHS experience.
· Excellent understanding of OSHA (maritime and general industry) and EPA (air, water, waste) regulations and industry standards as applicable to marinas and boat yards.
· Ability to research and understand the application of environmental and employee safety standards in foreign jurisdictions.
· Extensive experience in EHS management, with a proven track record of success in developing and implementing EHS programs.
· Ability to develop and conduct training sessions on all topics related to EHS compliance.
· Ability to work independently and multi-task, prioritizing as appropriate
· Ability to travel on short notice to facilitate inspections and trainings
· Ability to work a flexible, full-time schedule
· Requires working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and Outlook

· Follow SHM Safety and Environmental rules and complete required related training
