CHIEF DEVELOPMENT OFFICER
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Chief Development Officer will coordinate efforts to strengthen and diversify SHFS’s funding base and build relationships by securing funding from private, corporate, and government sources. This position will assist in prospecting grant/foundation proposals and researching new funding sources. The Chief Development Officer will take the lead in assisting in the development of the annual fundraising strategy and will work with the CEO in setting strategies and goals. In order to meet these expectations, this position will oversee the Marketing Committee and media campaigns to educate the community about Safe Haven’s mission and work. This position will be a key leadership team member, and will collaborate with staff and board in the successful execution of the budget.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversees the Development Department (staff, volunteers/committee), the donor database, donor acknowledgements, and the tracking of donor data.
- Conducts research on potential funding sources and develops leads as required.
- Sets annual goals for funding with the CEO.
- Serves as staff liaison to the Board of Directors to identify major prospects and funding goals, i.e. a major donor campaign.
- Works with event staff on annual major fundraising events: Annual Dancing for Safe Haven, Hike for Safe Haven and other planned events to secure sponsorships
- Works with Marketing Committee and Development Department to implement marketing and PR strategies to coordinate with our Development Plan.
- Schedules and organizes meetings with foundation and corporate leaders and assists the CEO in cultivating and managing relationships. Engages staff and volunteers and/or board when appropriate and coordinates roles to maximize effectiveness.
- Participates in individual prospect identification and follow-up with CEO and other development staff; attends various development function meetings and events as requested and/or appropriate.
- Manages fund development budgets and reports.
- Participates in the Annual Review Process.
- Works with the CEO and Development Department to prospect, write, submit, and evaluate grants that meet organizational goals.
- Performs additional duties designated by the CEO and Board to achieve success in fundraising and community relations efforts to meet the mission of Safe Haven Family Shelter.
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND PREREQUISITES:
- Bachelor’s Degree in relevant area
- Five years’ demonstrated experience in successful nonprofit fund development
- Professional demeanor, high level of emotional intelligence, ability to protect confidential information
- Experience and mastery in donor database systems
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work Environment: Office setting.
- Must be able to sit / stand for 8 hours.
- Walking, bending, light lifting up to 25 lbs.
- Must be able to travel to community service providers and families in need.

Salary : $85,000 - $120,000
