Safe Haven Ministries - a nonprofit organization located in Grand Rapids, Michigan - believes in a multi-faceted approach to serving victims/survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking, while also working to prevent these types of violence in our community. Safe Haven offers comprehensive intervention services, including: confidential emergency shelter; transitional and rapid re-housing; psycho-educational support groups; individual case management and advocacy; children and youth support services; crisis services; and mobile advocacy; and primary prevention training and outreach for the entire community.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Join our team of skilled and ambitious professionals who share a dedication to serving and enhancing the voices of survivors of relationship abuse and human trafficking. Under general supervision, the Residential Program Manager oversees the shelter daily operations, health and safety, and supervision of 7-9 full-and part-time shelter assistant staff for Safe Haven’s emergency safe shelter. Safe Haven’s shelter has two residential advocates that provide ongoing case management to the 14 households in shelter, while this role provides additional client support and takes lead on developing ongoing activities for residents in shelter.

In this role, you will have an opportunity to grow and develop a team of Shelter Assistants that help to ensure trauma-informed care is provided to those accessing the agency’s 24/7 crisis support and emergency safe shelter. This position is Full-time, Exempt; Primarily 8AM-5PM, M-F with non-traditional evening and weekend hours; rotating on-call responsibilities during weekdays (approx. 2 weeks/month, Monday morning - Friday afternoon)

SUMMARY OF DUTIES (Essential Functions)

  • Oversee the daily operations of Safe Haven’s emergency safe shelter. This may include coordination of room assignments, conducting shelter intakes, completing room flips and monitoring the health and safety of shelter.
  • Supervise team of 7-9 full-time and part-time Shelter Assistants by providing regular 1:1 supervision, on the job coaching and provide support to evening/weekend staff in shelter.
  • Lead the interviewing, hiring, onboarding, scheduling, coaching and corrective plans and bi-annual performance evaluations of shelter assistants.
  • Provide crisis intervention, resources and referrals to individuals in shelter or those accessing the crisis hotline and/or walk-in services
  • In collaboration with the residential staff and Director of Housing, ensure Residential Program Guidelines related to the health and safety of the shelter are developed and maintained; assist in the coordination and communication of maintenance needs
  • Coordinate with volunteers and other key staff to ensure donations, inventory and shelter groceries are ordered, picked-up, stored and prepared properly.
  • Ensure that all necessary client records, activities and actions are maintained and accurately recorded
  • Provide oversight to the shelter budget and inventory of shelter goods and supplies.
  • Attend and participate in program meetings, weekly staff meetings, individual supervisions, staff in-services, and other assigned meetings.
  • Share in evening weekday on-call responsibilities with the Director of Housing
  • Observe professional confidentiality; protect the rights of clients and their families and observe the Safe Haven Ministries Code of Ethics at all times
  • Steward and foster partnerships supporting shelter operations

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED OR PREFERRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Bilingual candidates strongly preferred
  • 2-3 years’ experience successfully supervising staff, particularly in a residential setting and/or staff that work nontraditional hours
  • Strong administrative and time management skills required
  • Experience working with victims/survivors of domestic abuse and/or human trafficking, strongly preferred
  • Ability to lift bags or boxes weighing approximately 20-30 pounds
  • Demonstrated success with conflict management and crisis intervention
  • Experience working in a residential program or setting strongly preferred
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and competing priorities
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultures and backgrounds
  • Valid Michigan Driver’s License and reliable transportation

Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
