PURPOSE: To provide Trauma Informed services of advocacy to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in an emergency shelter setting, by supporting the mission, vision and values of SAFE on Main.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides trauma informed advocacy and support during scheduled shifts, including direct contact with shelter residents or through Crisis Line interaction.
- Makes appropriate assessments of survivors lethality and victim’s level of danger, assists clients with safety plan development, decision making, and determines appropriate referral and resources
- Assists in providing domestic violence and sexual assault survivors with advocacy for racial, cultural, ethnic, LEP, disables, immigrant, gender-based, and LGBTQ needs
- Provides information and/or refers clients to Legal Advocate Division regarding legal options and resources including how to utilize law enforcement, file child support, file Crime Victim’s Compensation claims and register for VINE
- Maintains strict client confidentiality and practices a client-centered approach that is trauma informed
- Enters all client-related information and documents into Apricot and provides monthly statistical reports to Shelter Manager while maintaining client record compliances.
- Completes chore list and general housekeeping responsibilities.
REQUIREMENTS
- Preferred Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, Criminal Justice, Mental Health, Counseling or related fields
- 2-3 years’ experience in crisis intervention, domestic violence or related human service field with knowledge of utilizing trauma informed approached care
- Excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills with the ability to work both independently and in coordinated team setting
- Strong analytical skills to problem solve, make decisions, provide crisis intervention etc.
- Commitment to respecting individual differences, self-determination, and serving a diverse population
- Willingness to follow supervisory directions and attend trainings, staff meetings and professional trainings
- Ohio Driver’s License with good driving record
