Safe Passage is currently seeking a Finance Director. This position is responsible for all finance and accounting-related activities of Safe Passage, Inc., a nonprofit organization serving victims of domestic and sexual violence in DeKalb, Illinois. The Finance Director serves as a financial advisor for the organization and provides accounting, financial management and analysis, grant reporting, budget preparation and control, payroll, and risk management.
This position routinely handles highly sensitive and/or confidential information and will represent Safe Passage in a variety of capacities. Must demonstrate good independent judgment, an ability to be approachable and professional, solid problem-solving skills, an ability to handle multiple tasks, an ability to be self-motivated and well organized, and maintain strict confidentiality.
Essential Functions
- Process accounts payable invoices and payments.
- Process accounts receivable invoices and deposits.
- Calculate and enter grant revenue and receivables.
- Process payroll, calculate benefits, remit payroll taxes, and complete all payroll tax reporting.
- Prepare and enter all other financial transactions (i.e. journal entries).
- Prepare agency financial statements and finance report present to the Executive Director and the Finance Committee.
- Prepare all monthly, quarterly, and annual fiscal grant reports for the funders.
- Facilitate completion of the annual audit with an outside audit firm; prepare all necessary schedules and documents.
- Develop annual agency budget.
- Prepare budgets for all grant applications; track costs and monitor progress throughout the year.
- Develop and maintain effective internal controls.
- Update and revise agency fiscal manual.
- Review and update agency inventory and depreciation schedules; oversee annual physical inventory.
- Manage agency cash flow.
- Participate as a member of the leadership team.
- Participate in staff meetings and supervision.
- Participate in trainings and webinars to further professional development.
Required Education and Experience
· Master’s degree in finance, accounting, or business field from an accredited college or university or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
· Prior supervisory and management experience.
· Certified Public Accountant or equivalent coursework.
· Experience with accounting software, QuickBooks preferred.
· Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
· Grant management experience within a nonprofit.
· Excellent time management and organizational skills.
