We are currently seeking a talented and experienced Fire Inspector / Plans Examiner to join our team of professionals. This position offers great opportunity for dynamic, motivated self-starters to work on a variety of work assignments. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform fire safety inspections and plan reviews of residential, commercial, industrial properties and places of assembly to determine compliance with fire prevention codes and ordinances.
- Write citations and/or stop work in progress depending on the nature of the infraction, document actions, and testify in court, if necessary.
- Perform fire and safety clearance inspections for new business licenses
- Participate in disaster preparedness programs
- Review plans for code compliance with applicable fire and building codes including, but not limited to, checking underground fire mains, fire alarm systems, fire suppression systems, hazardous materials storage and architectural/engineering details
- Research and review fire legislation, codes and ordinances, keeping up to date on all code changes
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
SKILLS:
- Extensive knowledge of local building codes and current construction procedures/technology
- Interpretation of codes in the field and ability to provide code compliant solutions
- Must possess the ability to positively interact with the other staff members, the general public, contractors, governmental entities, and other clientele
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Good time management, organization, and attention to detail skills
- Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and a considerable amount of independent judgment
CERTIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- TCFP Fire Plans Examiner and Fire Inspector II required
- TCFP Fire Marshal a plus
- NFPA certifications a plus
- International Code Council (ICC) certifications a plus
- 5 plus years of experience in a variety of fire prevention, inspection, and plan review duties.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Possession of a valid Texas driver's license with good driving record
