Job Title: Director of Facilities and Safety
Department: Operations
Reports To: COO
Salary: $70,000 - $75,000
Hours per week: Full-time / 40 hours per week
Job Overview:
SafeNest is seeking a highly organized and hands-on Director of Facilities and Safety to oversee property management, facility operations, inventory control, and safety compliance across our locations. This role ensures that all facilities operate efficiently, meet regulatory standards, and provide a safe, clean, and supportive environment for staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Facility & Property Management
  • Oversee the maintenance, functionality, and safety of all SafeNest properties, including shelters, administrative offices, and service centers.
  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules to maximize the lifespan of equipment and infrastructure.
  • Manage all building repairs, renovations, and capital improvement projects.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal building codes and safety regulations.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for property management issues, including vendor contracts, and landlord relationships.
Staff Development & Supervision
  • Provide leadership, training, and performance management for the facilities team, including maintenance, and janitorial staff.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, efficiency, and continuous improvement among direct reports.
  • Conduct regular team meetings, professional development workshops, and safety training sessions.
Inventory & Resource Management
  • Oversee facility inventory, including maintenance supplies, safety equipment, and operational resources.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory tracking system to prevent shortages or overstocking.
Safety, Compliance & Emergency Preparedness
  • Develop, implement, and enforce safety policies to protect residents, staff, and visitors.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
  • Lead emergency preparedness initiatives, including crisis response planning, environmental emergency policies, and regular evacuation drills.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, fire codes, and health safety standards.
  • Coordinate with law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency response agencies as needed.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in facility and property management, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
  • Strong background in staff supervision, emergency preparedness, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven ability to manage vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, and oversee budgets.
  • Experience with inventory management and procurement processes.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and facility management software.
  • CPR/First Aid and OSHA certification preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds and perform tasks that require walking, standing, bending, and climbing stairs regularly.
