Housing Advocate Opportunity at SafePlace

Position Summary :

We are excited to expand our Housing Team, and are looking for a compassionate Housing Advocate with expertise in trauma-informed and culturally sensitive practices to provide essential support to survivors of domestic violence. The primary responsibility of this role is to assist clients in securing permanent, safe housing while offering ongoing, individualized case management to promote long-term stability. The Housing Advocate will play a key role in guiding individuals and families through the relocation process, ensuring a smooth transition and continued support as they rebuild their lives. This position typically requires availability from 9 : 30am to 6 : 30pm, Monday through Thursday.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Client Support : Engage and assess the needs of clients, develop housing strategy plans, and support them through the housing relocation process.
  • Advocacy and Outreach : Advocate for clients with external partners and stakeholders, and assist clients in overcoming barriers to secure stable housing.
  • Resource Coordination : Connect clients with community resources and maintain relationships with landlords, housing authorities, and support agencies.
  • Administrative Duties : Handle program-related documentation, ensure compliance with guidelines, and manage data entry and financial reporting.
  • Team Collaboration : Communicate effectively with the housing program team, contribute to meetings, and partake in professional development.
  • Ethical Practice : Uphold cultural competency, ethical standards, and ensure client confidentiality in all aspects of the work.

  • Minimum Qualifications :

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Access to a telephone, car, and current automobile liability insurance, or reliable transportation to fulfill job duties that may include home visits and community outreach.
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with supervisors, colleagues, and volunteers.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively and maintain detailed and consistent work.
  • Ability to calmly and effectively manage emergency situations, providing leadership and direction as needed.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Bilingual (Spanish and English).
  • At least one year of full-time equivalent experience in providing direct services and / or case management in a related field, such as domestic violence, sexual assault programs, crisis intervention, or housing services.
  • Experience working with low-income and marginalized communities in a culturally relevant manner.
  • Ability to uphold the highest standards of confidentiality in all agency-related matters.
  • Competency in resolving conflicts and setting boundaries in a fair and respectful manner.
  • Intermediate level proficiency in technology, including the Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), internet use, email, and basic cell phone functions.
