The Certified Peer Specialist plays a vital role in supporting individuals with mental health and substance use challenges by sharing lived experiences, providing guidance, and fostering personal empowerment. This position is designed for individuals who have successfully navigated their own recovery journey and are passionate about helping others achieve their goals.

In addition to providing peer support, the Certified Peer Specialist must be able to lead Bible studies that encourage spiritual growth and facilitate light physical fitness training to promote overall well-being. This role requires a holistic approach to recovery, addressing emotional, spiritual, and physical health.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one support to individuals in recovery, helping them set and achieve personal goals.
  • Facilitate group sessions that encourage sharing of experiences, coping strategies, and mutual support.
  • Lead Bible study groups, guiding individuals in applying spiritual principles to their recovery journey.
  • Conduct light physical fitness activities to promote movement, energy, and wellness.
  • Employ motivational interviewing techniques to foster engagement and commitment to recovery.
  • Collaborate with mental health professionals to develop comprehensive, individualized care plans.
  • Mentor clients by sharing personal recovery stories and strategies for overcoming obstacles.
  • Advocate for clients within various systems, including healthcare, social services, and community resources.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of client interactions, progress, and outcomes in compliance with organizational policies.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of behavioral health principles and recovery-based support.
  • Experience with motivational interviewing to enhance client engagement.
  • Knowledge of mental health and addiction counseling practices.
  • Ability to mentor individuals effectively, fostering a supportive environment for growth.
  • Familiarity with social work principles and community resource navigation.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to convey information clearly and compassionately.
  • Ability to lead Bible study discussions, integrating faith into the recovery process.
  • Comfortable facilitating light physical fitness activities to encourage healthy movement.
  • Empathy, patience, and a nonjudgmental attitude towards individuals facing mental health challenges.

Pay: $20.00 - $26.00 per hour

Expected hours: 28 – 40 per week
