Job Summary
The DV Shelter Manager will be responsible for providing and maintaining empowerment based, trauma-informed, survivor-centered shelter setting. This includes peer modeling best practices in the provision of services to individuals that have been victimized by domestic violence. This position is accountable for developing, implementing and maintaining residential activities, best practices in the provision of services, fostering collaborative relationships with community partners, identifying referrals and resources, compiling monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, and facilitating in-service trainings and community presentations. Schedule - Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm with flex to cover shifts when needed.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field and 3 years of advocacy experience specific to a non-profit agency that serves victims of domestic violence, sexual violence or human trafficking providing case management, crisis intervention and advocacy and a minimum of one-year supervisory experience. (May substitute education with prior relevant professional experience.)
- Ability to engage in and model supportive, healthy relationships, with survivors, peers, staff and community members.
- Excellent ability to safely respond to a crisis, conflict, and critical incidents utilizing a trauma-informed de-escalation approach.
- Must adhere to SafeSpace ethics, policies, procedures, and contractual standards.
- Strong working knowledge of social service agencies, including government help systems is preferred.
- Ability to communicate efficiently utilizing strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Must maintain and protect the confidentiality of the program participants and shelter locations within agency guidelines and state statutes.
- Bilingual language skills are preferred.
- Must be able to pass a level two background screen.
- Must be willing to lead and serve on the emergency disaster team in the event of a national disaster or weather emergency.
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license with reliable transportation to work at various locations including both emergency shelters and outreach locations.
- Ability to be flexible and provide coverage when needed to meet SafeSpace shelter scheduling needs, including nights, weekends and holidays, as needed
- Must be organized and detail-oriented, able to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to be self-motivated and work as part of a collaborative team.
Training Requirements: Required onboarding training will be conducted at the Admin. office or designated location during the hours of 8:30 am – 5:00 pm Monday through Friday regardless of shift schedule. Must successfully complete CORE Competency training provided by the agency within 90 days of employment and participate in ongoing mandatory education and skills training on relevant topics as required by statutory funding, certification of the agency or personnel, or as identified to improve employee performance. Must maintain annual training requirements outlined in the employee manual. Must have or gain knowledge in Florida Domestic Violence Statutes, Injunctions for Protection, court procedures, victim rights, Office of the Attorney General Victim Compensation / Relocation and Address Confidentiality Program (ACP), and the Florida Department of Corrections VINE (Victim Information Notification Everyday).

This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Will be a noisy environment that is fast paced with high stimulation. Working with survivors of intimate partner domestic violence may increase exposure to secondary trauma.

- Provide over-site of designated shelter staff to support and ensure the safety of staff and participants through adherence to agency policies, protocols, SOPs, DCF standards, and confidentiality statutes 39.908 and 90.5036. In addition to leading and serving on the emergency disaster team in the event of a national disaster or weather emergency. 5%
- Ensure the successful provision of program services by directly implementing, coordinating, providing and supporting staff through supervision in the delivery of the following activities including, but not limited to 30%
a. Responding to crisis hotline callers and assessing program eligibility.
b. Completing intakes, exits, individual counseling, advocacy sessions, and case management services.
c. Collecting and documenting accurate data and service information into the agency’s client database management system.
d. Facilitating house meetings, supportive group counseling services, and educational workshops.
e. Identifying and addressing the immediate and ongoing basic and safety needs of program participants.
f. Creating a welcoming and supportive environment for participants residing in the emergency shelter.
- Facilitate and document the following, including, but not limited to: 20%
a. Weekly case staff meetings.
b. Monthly individual and all-staff supervision meetings.
c. Timely agency inspections by Health and Fire Departments, fire, stove, and alarm equipment.
d. Staff annual performance evaluations for review by Director of Programs and/or Human Resources.
e. Recruitment, interviewing, onboarding/orientation, and training of shelter staff and volunteers.
f. Formal disciplinary and corrective action(s) reports.
- Perform quality assurance reviews for the following activities completed and collected by staff, including, but not limited to: 20%
a. Adult and child participant service forms and files (paper and electronic).
b. Hotline calls.
c. Group service logs completed by staff.
d. Victims Compensation Applications completed by staff.
e. Volunteer timecards completed by volunteers serving the shelter program.
f. Confidentiality Agreements completed by vendors, visitors, outside providers, and volunteers.
g. Incident reports completed and submitted by staff.
h. Monthly and quarterly statistical reports.
i. Hard of hearing communication assessment and auxiliary aids service records.
j. Health and safety logs.
k. Shift communication logs.
l. Staff training attendance records.
- Ensure required coverage is scheduled and maintained to provide 24hr/7day hotline and shelter services to callers and program participants. Manage the schedules for the staff to meet the needs of program participants. 3%
- Collect and submit accurate statistical and program reports by the 3rd day of each month. 2%
- Review and approve all direct reports' timesheets. Balance petty cash funds, account for all receipts, and verify that all agency credit card purchases and financial requests were appropriately authorized. 2%
- Providing ongoing consultation to shelter staff on crises, including responding to calls regarding crises after hours and on the weekends as the Administrator on Call (AOC) as scheduled 2%
- Represent SafeSpace, Inc. and advocate on behalf of domestic violence survivors at community events, interagency meetings, and community meetings. Facilitate professional development training and other community awareness events. 2%
- Ensure facilities are clean and schedule / coordinate maintenance and/or repairs, including vehicles, equipment, and furniture. Conduct daily walk-throughs and take corrective action to meet compliance with SafeSpace policies, procedures, standards, regulations, to ensure health and safety standards are met. 2%
- Ensure proper supply inventories and distribution of basic needs items, food, clothing, linens, cleaning supplies, office supplies, etc. 2%
- Ensure staff adheres to all safety and security policies, protocols, and procedures. 5%
- Participate as a team member to provide coverage and support to other DVS Managers so that IRC and Martin County shelters are both covered appropriately regarding supervision, staffing, etc. 2%
- Participate, assist with, and complete other projects and allowable duties relating to crime victim services, as required and assigned by the Director of Programs. 3%
