Position Summary: The primary function of the Facilities Technician is to be responsible for general maintenance and repairs of SafeSpace, Inc.'s Emergency Shelters (Martin and Indian River Counties) and the administration office, as well as transporting materials to other locations, as needed. Hours are Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 5:00 pm; flexibility to work overtime as needed.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Must have a high school diploma, G.E.D. or higher. Job-related experience may substitute for formal education on a year-for-year basis at the discretion of the Chief Executive Officer.
- Experience performing routine maintenance.
- Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems, preferred.
- Required experience using hand and electrical tools such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches.
- The ability to check blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs as necessary.
- The ability to read technical manuals and drawings, preferred.
- The ability to carry out detailed oral or written instructions.
- The ability to take apart machines, equipment, or devices to remove and replace defective parts, preferred.
- Experience with precision measuring instruments or electronic testing devices, preferred.
- Strong organizational and follow-up skills and eye for detail.
- Strong time management skills.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, as this job may require working on nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
- Must adhere to SafeSpace ethics, policies, procedures, and contractual standards.
- Ability to communicate efficiently utilizing verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Must maintain and protect the confidentiality of the program participants and shelter locations within agency guidelines and state statutes.
- Must be willing to support the emergency disaster team in the event of a national disaster or weather emergency.
- Must be able to pass a level two background screen.
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license with reliable transportation to work at various locations including both emergency shelters and other locations, as needed.
- Must be able to handle and prioritize emergencies and unexpected facilities needs to support the programs.
- Ability to be self-motivated and work as part of a collaborative team.
Training Requirements: Required onboarding training will be conducted at the Admin. office or designated location during the hours of 8:30 am – 5:00 pm Monday through Friday regardless of shift schedule. Must successfully complete CORE Competency training provided by the agency within 90 days of employment and participate in ongoing mandatory education and skills training on relevant topics as required by statutory funding, certification of the agency or personnel, or as identified to improve employee performance. Must maintain annual training requirements outlined in the employee manual.

This job operates in 24-hour emergency shelters, Administrative office, outreach locations, as needed. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. In addition, regularly uses powered hand tools. Will be a noisy environment that is fast paced with high stimulation indoors and outside environments.

- Ensure that the two emergency shelters’ property grounds are clean, attractive, and free of debris and keep the landscape tidy. 10% 5% VOCA 5% Other
- Maintain emergency shelters interior areas as required to maintain fully functioning facilities. 3% 1.5% VOCA 1.5% Other
- Routinely change light bulbs inside and outside the emergency shelters to include emergency exit lighting. 1%.5% VOCA .5% Other
- Make minor carpentry, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing repairs at both emergency shelters (Indian River County and Martin County) and admin office (within skill set) or assist in obtaining skilled vendor. 35% 17.5% VOCA 17.5% Other
- With supervisor approval, arrange for repairs with vendors when work is beyond the scope of unlicensed maintenance work. 15% 7.5% VOCA 7.5% Other
- Periodically check emergency shelter grounds to ensure that all windows are closed and outside lighting is working correctly to maintain the safety and security of the shelter residents. Will maintain a liability/safety focus at all times. 3% 1.5% VOCA 1.5% Other
