SMG seeks a Safety Advisor – Power & Utilities in the Corpus Christi, TX area.
The key functions of a Safety Advisor are to prioritize safety, prioritize the client’s needs, work well in a team setting, be self-managed, and be flexible when it comes to change. The Associate in this role will work in a utility construction environment.

**SMG will utilize a Traveling Safety Rep for this opening. Per Diem is available.** This person will provide safety oversight and consulting for the commissioning phase of a BESS facility (new construction).
Overview of Job Responsibilities:
- Contractor safety management program implementation
- Complete quality safety observations and document findings with a focus on leading indicators
- Establish, build, and maintain effective relationships with appropriate stakeholders
- Provide safety leadership for grid enhancement projects
- Verify compliance with safety policies and procedures as required by law and the owner
- Work to ensure safety requirements are clear to contractors
- Represent the utility client in meetings
- Prepare reports in a clear and concise manner
- Reinforce safety culture with field crews
- Adhere to internal standards, policies, and procedures
Requirements
- A college degree in a safety-related field is preferred
- 3 years’ utility safety management-related experience required
- Be able to work outdoors in all reasonable conditions
- Proficient in effective email correspondence, electronic document development, creating safety-related communications (bulletins, alerts, etc.), navigating new computer software and applications
- Ability to multitask and manage multiple competing priorities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in a collaborative team setting
- Ability to lead meetings and initiatives to drive results
Experience preferred in the following areas:
- Transmission & distribution, vegetation management, underground distribution, and network
- Demonstrated knowledge of safety rules and regulations at all levels of government, including federal, state, and local
- CUSP required; in lieu of CUSP, ASP or CSP will be considered with appropriate utility experience
Physical demands of the job may include:
- Moving about long distances
- Ascending/descending stairs and ladders
- Remaining in a stationary position for a prolonged period of time
- Working in extreme weather (hot and cold environments)
- Being exposed to loud noises
- Wearing personal protective gear correctly
