SMG is seeking a Safety Yard Coordinator in Lebanon, Indiana. This is a full-time, onsite position (must reside within 30 miles of Lebanon, IN).
The Safety Yard Coordinator will oversee the daily operations of the Safety Yard, manage training programs, facilitate community outreach, and handle administrative and facility coordination tasks. This position requires a hands-on leader with strong organizational skills, entrepreneurial thinking, and a passion for safety training and business growth. The ideal candidate will ensure that the Safety Yard operates efficiently, remains a high-functioning training environment, and expands its reach through strategic partnerships.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Facility and Operational Management:
- Oversee the daily operations of The Safety Yard, ensuring a safe, organized, and well-maintained environment.
- Manage facility upkeep, coordinating vendors for cleaning, propane, and equipment maintenance.
- Schedule office equipment maintenance, repairs, and replacements as needed.
- Ensure emergency protocols are in place and all team members are properly trained in safety procedures.
2. Training Program Coordination & Delivery:
- Act as the primary facilitator for the SMG University, The Safety Yard, and the Mobile Training Unit training calendars.
- Organize and schedule training sessions, working with internal and external trainers to ensure compliance with OSHA and industry safety standards.
- Maintain accurate records of training materials, certifications, and documentation.
- Assist with training delivery and eventually graduate into conducting safety training courses.
- Host weekly training team scheduling and coordination meetings.
3. Community Engagement and Outreach:
- Build and maintain relationships with local agencies, trade associations, and community organizations to promote The Safety Yard’s training programs.
- Develop partnerships that align with The Safety Yard’s mission and expand its impact.
- Coordinate quarterly Vendor Appreciation meetings.
4. Entrepreneurial and Business Management:
- Develop business growth strategies, increase revenue streams, and improve client engagement.
- Handle administrative tasks such as ordering supplies and services.
- Arrange catering and assist with event and meeting planning.
5. Leadership and Team Development:
- Lead by example to create a strong safety culture within The Safety Yard.
- Provide mentorship and coaching to staff, fostering leadership development and a commitment to safety excellence.
- Ensure effective communication between all staff, The Safety Yard, and the wider organization.
Requirements
- Proven experience in safety training or a related field.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with strong financial management skills.

- Knowledge of OSHA standards and best practices in safety leadership.

Physical Demands:
- Wearing personal protective gear correctly when required.
- Driving a company vehicle for long periods.
- Must be able to speak and hear clearly in person, virtually, or on the phone.
- Must possess the physical strength to operate all training equipment.
- Capable of lifting heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
- Able to walk and stand for extended periods.
- Must be able to stoop, crouch, squat, climb and kneel.
