What are the responsibilities and job description for the Produce Clerk position at Safeway Albertsons?
As a primary contact for Safeway customers, the APC -Checker provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service. Primarily responsible for operating computerized cash register to itemize and total customer’s purchases. This is done by passing items in front of an electronic UPC (Universal Product Code) code scanner, or inputting the correct UPC/PLU (Price Look Up) information into a keyboard. Ensures accurate produce PLU code is used when charging for produce. APC-Checker is responsible to oversee self check-out and assist customers as needed. APC-Checker must have knowledge of price changes on sale items. Properly records prices, departments, ensure all items in cart are properly run up, and total purchases on cash register. Collects cash, check or electronic payments from customers and makes change for transactions. Places purchased items in bags and/or basket. Responsible for the accurate processing of EBT, WIC checks, promotional coupons, cash, checks and electronic payments. Checks ID for liquor, cigarettes and tobacco products. Returns damaged or unwanted merchandise to the appropriate location. Troubleshoots card reader or scanner errors. Replaces paper in printers. Deals with customer complaints or price disputes. Answers telephone or uses intercom pager. Performs cleaning and stocking duties as needed. The position is hourly non-exempt. The APC-Checker reports to the Store Manager, 1st and 2nd Assistant Manager or Person in Charge.
