AV SYSTEMS ENGINEER

Description

The AV Systems Engineer is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining the audio and visual technical equipment on campus, providing direct support for all on and off campus events that require presentation and performance technology, particularly in our Black Box Theater. The AV Systems Engineer will be supporting, advising and training: student crews, employees, guests, and those granted the use of presentation spaces.  Due to the high volume of projects and performances, the AV Systems Engineer must manage timely communication with the Supervisor and Performing Arts Faculty at all times.

 Essential duties and responsibilities include the following

Information Technology Department Duties:

• Operate, maintain and facilitate the use of the presentation AV assets on campus, including supervising the use of audio, lighting and communications equipment.

• Determine and provide the necessary technical support, such as l audio, lighting, recording and video for events and performances in advance of production dates.
• Is responsible for, set up, maintenance, and the operation of all technical elements which include audio, lighting, and video systems for on and off campus events, including but not limited to live events with a streaming component, theater performances, speaker events, graduation ceremonies, etc.

• Provide documentation, planning, and support to visiting productions and orient facility renters and visiting productions to safety, technical characteristics and other areas of facility operations; facilitate the use of the technical facilities by others engaged by or renting the facility.
• Become proficient in communication tools and processes to maintain timely communication with Supervisor and Performing Arts Faculty.
• Maintain, organize and keep a clean ongoing, accurate inventory of all AV equipment and supplies being used on campus.
• Make recommendations regarding capital purchases of technical equipment and annual operating budget for all AV equipment.
• As a member of the Technology Team, answer AV support requests and school event planning as needed, including after-hour support through Helpdesk.
• Other duties as delegated by the Director of Technology.

Black Box Theater Duties:

• Manages the sound design for all performing arts productions, including Q-lab setup.
• Works with the Performing Arts Faculty with all productions on sound design.
• Assists in training and advising of student technical staff for individual shows.

Qualifications

Technical and Education:

• Work experience includes at least six (6) full musical theater productions in the capacity of Production Sound Engineer and three (3) as the Sound Designer.
• Experience with sound equipment and systems, i.e., Q-lab, Yamaha and Allen and Heath audio consoles, Dante PA systems, Shure microphones, etc.
• Experience with control systems, operation installation and programming: Creston, QSC (Q-SYS) and Extron.
• Strong knowledge of wireless and use of Shure Wireless Workbench.
• Experience with Meyer Sound Constellation Systems and special mapping tools, a plus.
• Experience with lighting equipment and systems, ETC Ion Xe, Icue fixtures, strobes, movers, etc., a plus.
• Experience with streaming equipment and systems, such as OBS/XSplit, Elgato, YouTube, web cameras a plus.
• Experience in an educational environment, with classroom projectors, Zoom, and similar technologies a plus.
• BA in related area or 5 years of experience working as a Sound Designer

• Flexible schedule to oversee campus events during nights and weekends as needed.
