Summary: The Lead Camp Counselor at Camp Sage plays a key leadership role in ensuring a high-quality, safe, and engaging camp experience for all participants. In addition to directly supervising campers, the Lead Counselor is responsible for supporting fellow counselors, coordinating daily transitions, and serving as a liaison between camp staff and the Director of Auxiliary Programs. This position requires initiative, responsibility, and a strong commitment to youth development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Lead daily camper check-ins, group supervision, and team-building activities
- Support and guide junior counselors in activity execution and camper engagement
- Coordinate group transitions between activities, lunch, and free time, ensuring timeliness and camper accountability
- Serve as point person for resolving minor camper issues and escalating concerns when appropriate
- Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and safe environment for all campers
- Provide campus tours and assist with orientation activities
- Communicate regularly with camp leadership to relay feedback and ensure consistent execution of daily plans
- Assist instructors, coaches, and guest facilitators with materials and camper participation as needed
- Monitor and promote adherence to all camp rules, including any health and safety protocols
- Participate in and help lead mandatory counselor training prior to the start of camp
- All other duties as assigned by the Co-Directors of Summer at Sage
Qualifications
- Rising Sage Hill School senior or Class of 2025 graduate (preferred)
- Previous experience as a Camp Sage Counselor or equivalent youth leadership role
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to take initiative and work collaboratively with peers and adults
- Positive attitude, maturity, and reliability
- Must be available for the full camp duration: July 7 – August 1, 2025
- Passion for working with middle school-aged youth
