What are the responsibilities and job description for the MS Dean of Students/MS Athletic Coordinator position at Sage Hill School?
The Middle School Dean of Students is devoted to teaching and learning, supports the Schools co-curricular programs, and contributes broadly to the life of the School while promoting the Schools mission and core values. At all times, the Middle School Dean of Students will maintain Sage Hill Schools standards of excellence and professionalism. The Middle School Dean of Students will utilize a wide range of expertise and depth of knowledge to facilitate student accountability while developing and maintaining a healthy, supportive, and balanced school culture in the Middle School.
The Middle School Athletic Coordinator will work as a member of the athletic leadership team. The Middle School Athletic Coordinator will help build school spirit and generate a sense of community. The Middle School Athletic Coordinator will develop experiences that teach valuable lessons in teamwork, sportsmanship, integrity, discipline, courage, wellness, and leadership.
Primary responsibilities for the MS Dean of Students include the following, but are not limited to:
- Teach one (1) elective section
- Participate in the hiring process of middle school faculty
- Proactively construct a positive student culture that mitigates honor code infractions before they occur
- Design and implement a system of constructive corrective actions in which our core values are represented
- In conjunction with the Director of Middle School and Team Leaders, design and implement community programming and celebrations to help build culture
- Design and execute procedures for arrival, dismissal, and other school routines including, but not limited to before and after school time and recess activities
- Provide support to teachers, helping them create a warm, structured, consistent, developmentally appropriate and responsive classroom environment
- Develop and implement 7th and 8th grade advising curriculum.
- Responsible for training advisors.
- Responsible for assigning all advisory groups.
- Keep the Director of Middle School informed of the status and progress of advising, and wellness programming.
- Keep the Director of Middle School updated on school climate, student morale, and current issues and dynamics within the middle school
- Attend all faculty/staff, department, and Town Meetings, as well as all assemblies and school-wide events
- Attend and coordinate class retreats
- Contribute to Sage Center programming for Spring at Sage and Service Learning

Support the greater school community, including but not limited to:
- Attend the annual Admission Open House in October
- Attend Advancement, athletic, and arts events throughout the year
- Chaperone student events, per school guidelines
- Active participation on committees as assigned by the Director of Middle School
- Fulfill community support responsibilities as assigned
- Maintain professionalism in communication by promptly responding to emails and phone calls within 24 hours
- Oversee, uphold, and implement the expectations defined in the Student Handbook
- Authentically engage in self-reflection and professional growth
- Actively support the Schools commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusivity
- Carry out duties as outlined in Exhibit A
- Interact respectfully and professionally with all community members
- Honor the confidentiality of the School
- All other duties as assigned by the Director of Middle School or other supervisor
Primary responsibilities for the MS Athletic Coordinator include the following, but are not limited to:
- Coach or assistant coach three (3) athletic seasons (Fall, Winter, or Spring)
- Serve as the primary communicator regarding all Middle School athletic programming, expectations, behavioral guidelines, and other information necessary to ensure that all constituencies are fully informed, including student-athletes and parents
- Serve as the primary contact for the TriWay Athletic League
- Work with the Director of Athletics to develop and implement a strategic plan for middle school athletics, considering long-term goals
- Oversee all athletics programs for grades 7-8, ensuring they are developmentally appropriate and meet the physical, social, and emotional needs of students
- Coordinate middle school athletic schedules, avoiding conflicts and ensuring optimal use of facilities and resources
- Work with the registrar to implement team assignments.
- Work with the Director of Athletics to hire and assign all Middle School Athletic coaches.
- Foster a positive, inclusive athletic environment that promotes sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal growth
- Report directly to the Director of Middle School, maintaining close collaboration with the Director of Athletics to ensure alignment with educational objectives and student well-being
Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise student community during advisory, lunch, break and before and after school.
- Experience in an independent school environment preferred
