ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Office-Based Medical Assistant provides administrative support to the medical and clinical staff, which includes answering incoming calls, handling medication refill requests and utilizing software to document actions taken.
*This schedule is a flex schedule of 40 hrs/week including weekends *
**This is a business office/call center based position
MAJOR JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Enters a variety of information into the Electronic Health Record.
• Answers phone calls from patients, physicians and facilities regarding clinical items.
• Sends medical transcriptions (via fax or mail) to referring providers as needed
• Assesses medical and medical education needs of the patient and provides education as directed by the provider.
• Reviews the provider's schedule throughout the day and prior to the start of shift to ensure patient flow
• Follows up on orders, labs and imaging as needed
• Obtains Prior Authorizations
• Manages medication refills
• Performs all other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of (1) year prior Medical Assistant experience required
- Medical Assistant Certificate
SKILLS/ABILITIES/KNOWLEDGE:
• Knowledge of medical terminology, and medical office software preferred.
• Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely
• Must maintain a high level of patient confidentiality
• Must also be able to multi-task, be detail oriented with excellent follow through
• Must remain flexible and work well with a team
