Sage International School - Middleton- a public school of choice - is seeking applicants to fill a FULL TIME Paraprofessional position for the 2024-2025 academic year.
Description:
Successful candidates will, under the direction of the Teacher, Special Education Teacher, or Building Director achieve the educational goals and objectives of all students through individual, small group, or whole group instruction.
Qualifications:
- At least two years of college level coursework, or an Idaho State Paraprofessional Certification or an Associate degree
- Previous aide or teaching experience preferred
- Knowledge of child growth and development and appropriate classroom practices
- Demonstrated ability to assist with instructional activities
- Knowledge of subject matter and ability to instruct students at the direction of the teacher
- Ability to maintain a positive learning environment
- Works well with students, staff, and the public
- Excellent organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Able to work under pressure and deadlines
- Maintain confidentiality of staff and students
Major Responsibilities:
Working with Students
- Collaborate in designing and implementing behavior intervention plans that are appropriate to individual student needs.
- Provide individual and/or small group behavioral support to students with special needs.
- Monitor student and personnel response in instructional settings during which student exhibits undesired behaviors for the purpose of tracking behaviors, developing alternate interventions and decreasing undesired behaviors.
- Maintain a calm and professional demeanor when interacting with or responding to students who may be highly agitated, frustrated, and/or emotional, with the goal of defusing the situation and minimizing any threat of physical or emotional harm.
- Guide students with emotional, behavioral, and/or developmental challenges in processing stressful incidents in the classroom and/or other school settings.
- Maintain high academic and behavioral standards and expectations.
- Provide immediate feedback on student performance to students and to the supervising teacher.
- Identify pupil behavioral and social skills needs and provide instruction appropriate to those needs.
- Follow modifications and accommodations as specified in Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
- Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, specials and field trips.
- Encourage students to strive to meet their highest potential.
- Communicate classroom rules and encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
Other Classroom Assistance
- Alert the supervising teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student
- Serve as a source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher
- Keep the supervising teacher informed of activities and any issues that may arise
- Attend meetings with parents as requested
- Operate and care for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes
- Distribute and collect workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Help very young students with their clothing and snack time routines
Other
- Keep accurate records and maintain individual records for each student
- Complete clerical duties as assigned by the supervising teacher
- Attend faculty meetings as required
- Assume responsibility for his or her continuing professional growth and development through such efforts as reading professional journals and other publications
- Seek assistance should emergencies arise
- Represent the school district in a positive manner
- Know and follow school district policy and chain of command
- Perform other duties as assigned
