Reporting directly to the Controller, the Assistant Controller plays an important role in the business operations of Sage. Our ideal candidate is eager to join an evolving mission-based company and to work diligently to provide financial analysis and apply best accounting practices to ensure accurate and timely reporting to stakeholders. As Sage experiences massive growth, the role will join the finance group to execute essential day-to-day functions. The role requires an individual that can prioritize and wants to work in an organization advancing out of its start-up phase. This is a hybrid (remote/onsite) position.

Responsibilities:
- General Ledger Management: Oversee and manage the general ledger (GL) to ensure all transactions are properly recorded, reconciled, and reported.
- Financial Reporting: Assist with the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting principles and company policies.
- Month-End and Year-End Close: Support the timely and accurate closing of monthly and year-end financials, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
- Financial Analysis: Provide financial analysis and reports to assist management in making informed business decisions. Identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost savings.
- Internal Controls: Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity.
- Process Optimization: Identify opportunities for process improvements within accounting and financial operations. Implement automation tools and system enhancements to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Best Practices Implementation: Collaborate with the finance team to design and implement best practices for accounting workflows, month-end close processes, and reporting timelines.
- Cross-Department Collaboration: Work with other departments to streamline processes, reduce redundancy, and enhance communication between finance and operations teams.
- Compliance: Assist in ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company policies and procedures.
- Tax Compliance: Assist with the preparation of corporate tax filings, including income, sales, commercial activity, and other business taxes, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local regulations.
- Tax Reporting: Prepare and review tax-related reports and schedules for timely submission to tax authorities and auditors.
- Audit Support: Work with external auditors to facilitate annual audits, providing necessary documentation and resolving any issues that arise.
- Budget Preparation: Assist in the preparation and development of annual budgets, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
- Variance Analysis: Analyze budget-to-actual results and provide detailed explanations for any significant variances. Recommend corrective actions where necessary.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor accounting staff, helping to develop their skills and ensure efficient daily operations within the department.
- Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned, including ad-hoc reporting, project support, and process improvements.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- Minimum of three (3) years progressive accounting experience, including experience in a professional public accounting firm
- Intermediate or Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Strong understanding of US GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and internal controls
- Ability to analyze and interpret financial data effectively
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Ability to identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements in financial processes
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external business partners
- Proven high level of confidentiality and professionalism
- Strong remote work skills and communication
- Ability to perform at high levels in a fast-paced ever-changing work environment
- Ability to multitask in a changing environment with specific deadlines
- Lives within commuting distance to the office
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- CPA or CPA Candidate strongly preferred
- System implementation experience and working with technology teams is desirable
- Experience in Dynamics 365 Business Central a large plus
- Experience preparing for and supporting an external audit
- Working knowledge of/comfort with working in PowerBI dashboards and reporting
