THE FOLLOWING POSITION IS AVAILABLE FOR THE 2024-25 SCHOOL YEAR
ELEMENTARY SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER
SUMMARY OF POSITION : A caring, certified special education teacher who will be responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing standards-aligned instructional programs in a learning environment that helps special education students develop to their full academic potential.
REPORTS TO : Elementary Building Principal and Supervisor of Special Education
COMPENSATION : As per the CEA Master Agreement. Years of teaching experience will be considered.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Must have a valid K-5 teaching certificate with a certification to teach special education for the state of Michigan (or be able to obtain temporary approval). Preference will be given to endorsements in Early Childhood or Autism Spectrum Disorder.
- Must have an in-depth understanding of special education students, current special education law, and the IEP process.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must be able to work as part of a team.
- Experience working with at-risk students and their families is preferred.
- Must be highly organized and able to multi-task.
- Must be self-directed and self-motivated.
- Must have a high level of proficiency in Google Programs, including Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Classroom, as well as Microsoft Office.
- Must be willing to become certified in CPI strategies and be able to lift and assist students when necessary, including physical management.
- Must receive a satisfactory response to the PA 189 Letter. (Misconduct Law)
- Must satisfactorily pass :
Law enforcement background checks with fingerprinting.
