Full Time 1st Shift Monday-Friday 7 : 30 am -4 : 30 pm

Starting Wage : $17.46 an hour Exempt Annual Salary $36,316.80. Wage based off of Education and expereince.

Eligible Employer for Public Student Loan Forgiveness as a non-profit.

The Tribe is more of a community based organization we understand your family life is important, it's important to us too. As a team member you will enjoy our different types of paid leave time of Personal and Sick. Full time SCA Academic employees will receive 80 hours of sick and 40 hours of personal leave at the beginning of each academic year. Part time employees receive 40 hours of sick leave and 20 hours personal leave at the beginning of each academic year. SCA Academic Employees who begin their employment with the Saginaw Chippewa Academy after the beginning of the Academic Year will receive sick and personal leave in pro-rated amounts based on the employee's date of hire.

Cost of Single person $52.77 bi-weekly, Two Person $124.31 bi-weekly, Family Contract $ 158.85 bi-weekly.

Position Summary :

Under the supervision of Tribal School Principal, provide culturally responsive, resiliency-informed, and trauma-informed instructional services while maintaining a positive learning environment for Native American students in elementary grades at the Tribal School. All education staff must adhere to mandated reporting laws.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Plan and provide instructional services to Native American students in elementary grades.
  • Assist in the development of exemplary programs designed to accommodate the cultural, educational, social, emotional, creative and other learning needs of students.
  • Develop creative, engaging lesson plans and instructional materials according to Tribal Education Advisory Board approved educational standards.
  • Provide instruction to make the curriculum accessible to each student.
  • Establish positive relationships with students, families and the Tribal community.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom community.
  • Participate in cultural teachings and professional development opportunities to reinforce concepts in the classroom.
  • Possess a working knowledge of balanced assessment and data analysis to identify areas for improvement in differentiated instruction, and areas of need or strength for students.
  • Plan and coordinate the involvement of paraprofessionals, parents and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips.
  • Work with other Tribal programs to insure a holistic approach within the classroom.
  • Interpret school program to parents in order to strengthen parental understanding of the individual student`s needs and the school`s role in the student`s life.
  • Work with Tribal Schools Principal and Tribal Education Department staff for purposes of planning, scheduling, decision making, problem solving, etc.
  • Maintain student confidentiality in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and all other privacy regulations.
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality and present a positive, professional demeanor and image at all times.

Contacts / Purpose of Contacts :

  • Empowered to interact with students in a classroom situation.
  • Contact with parents, volunteers, paraprofessionals and instructional staff at the Tribal School.
  • Contact with other Tribal departments.
  • Minimum Qualifications :

  • Bachelor`s degree in Education or related field. OR
  • Currently enrolled in a Teacher Certification program, including alternative route programs, and able to obtain Teaching Certificate within six (6) months of hire.
  • Experience with current assessment requirements, federal and state standards.
  • Must be able to pass background check to meet the employment eligibility requirements as they pertain to the position.
  • Desired Qualifications :

  • Teaching experience.
  • Proficiency in speaking Ojibwe Language.
  • Experience working with Native students and communities.
  • License, Certification, or Special Requirements :

  • Must have a State of Michigan Teaching Certificate.
  • Expired State of Michigan Teaching Certificate will be considered.
  • Must be able to obtain CPR and First Aid Certification within probationary period.
  • Native American preference shall apply to all positions.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Knowledge of education principles and practices and curriculum development.
  • Knowledge of culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and resiliency-informed instructional practices.
  • Knowledge in records management.
  • Skill in teaching children in PK-5 grades.
  • Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including in a Windows environment, specifically Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
  • Ability to represent organization in a professional manner, building respect and confidence in the community.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to lead and guide the work of others.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Physical Demands :

  • Frequent use of hands, wrists, fingers associated with computer equipment.
  • Required to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Occasionally walk and stand.
  • Normal visual acuity, ability to talk and hear.
  • Occasionally lift and / or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Work Environment :

  • Normal office and school environment.
  • Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
  • Exposure to childhood colds, viruses.
  • Travel may be required.
