Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Youth Crew Leader/Assigned Department Supervisor, work in areas of interest for the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe and its entities. Position is intended to expose youth to meaningful work activities through on-the-job learning experiences which may lead to future career opportunities. The supervisor in the areas assigned will determine duties and responsibilities.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Complete a Youth Co -op application and indicate their areas of interest, i.e., maintenance, health, accounting, clerical, substance abuse, woodworking, or other areas available.
  • Attend orientation and trainings scheduled for all SY workers.
  • Complete trainings specific to department placement.
  • Must comply with Tribal Operations Personnel Policy and policies of the business unit of their placement.
  • Participate in community events as assigned.
  • Provide excellent customer service for all internal and external customers of the operations at all times. Provide solutions for customer concerns and continually focus on customer service as our top priority.
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality and present a positive, professional demeanor and image at all times.
  • The above duties and responsibilities are not an all-inclusive list but rather a general representation of the duties and responsibilities associated with this position. The duties and responsibilities will be subject to change based on organizational needs and/or deemed necessary by the supervisor.


Contacts/Purpose of Contacts:

  • Contacts will include frequent contact with Tribal Operations staff, Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort Management, Saganing Eagles Landing Casino, and Migizi Economic Development Company and Summer Youth Interns
  • May have some contact with the community and general public.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Member of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe.
  • Must be between fourteen years and eighteen years of age at the time of application.
  • Must attend parent/guardian and Summer Youth Intern meeting.


License, Certification, or Special Requirements:

  • Native American preference shall apply to all positions.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to deal with staff and public in a courteous manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in verbal or written format.


Physical Demands:

  • Frequent use of hands, wrists, fingers associated with computer equipment.
  • Required to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Occasionally walk and stand and reach with arms and hands.
  • Normal visual acuity, ability to talk and hear.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.


Work Environment:

  • Normal office and outdoor environment.
  • Must possess sufficient stamina to work under all types of weather conditions including extreme hot/cold and to lift, carry, push, or pull a variety of tools, equipment and materials.
