JOB SUMMARY:
Advise new and continuing student-athletes on curriculum requirements, academic achievement, course scheduling, and university policies and procedures. Provide information and assistance to students concerning academic programs, curricula, academic requirements and related policies and procedures. Advise students in the selection of an academic program and related course selection. This position requires an enthusiastic and student centric individual who will provide academic guidance, support, and resources to students.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Abides by NCAA Bylaws 10.1 and 11.1 regarding ethical conduct and the responsibility to positively contribute to a campus culture of NCAA rules compliance.
- Advise students in the selection of an academic program and related course selection.
- Assist in monitoring students’ academic progress.
- Maintain student records pertaining to academic advisement services.
- Participate in programs and services for new students (e.g., orientation programs both first-year students and transfer based).
- Assist targeted high-risk student populations to monitor their academic progress.
- Direct students toward appropriate support services and help centers. These include the Center for Academic Achievement, Writing Center, and other program specific groups.
- Coordinate retention programming for student-athlete cohorts.
- Keep up to date knowledge of university programs, degree requirements, and academic policies as well as NCAA eligibility requirements.
- Assist students in developing personalized academic plans that align with university and NCAA requirements.
- Monitor and approve drop-add activity for all assigned student-athletes with compliance officer.
- Assist the Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and Academic Services to track academic progress toward general studies completion, graduation and NCAA continuing eligibility requirements for all student-athletes.
- Work with incoming student-athletes that take CT 100 courses during first-year semester.
- Attend SVSU Athletic Department staff meetings.
- Work with the Registration Office and Athletic Compliance Office, to assist with semester checks pre and post semester.
- Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree
- One year of relevant, related work experience.
- Excellent written and oral communication and people skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), and ability to learn new software quickly.
- Ability to work independently and under occasional pressure.
- Ability to work a flexible and varying schedule.
- Ability to work with diverse student populations.
- Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
- Working knowledge of NCAA continuing eligibility requirements.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Duties are performed indoors and not normally exposed to adverse conditions.
