JOB SUMMARY:
The International Admission Counselor will perform a variety of duties related to the initial assessment and review of applications for admission into Saginaw Valley State University. This position will be responsible for maintaining academic records, which includes reviewing transcripts from high schools, colleges, and universities, as well as testing agencies, and inputting data into the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system and the Student Information System (SIS). They will help create and support relationships with prospective students, counselors, families, and international partners (i.e. recruiting agencies and partner institutions).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides excellent and timely student-centered communication to prospective and admitted students, responding to student inquiries and proactively supporting students through steps in the admissions and enrollment process.

Monitors volume of admissions-related documents and assists with data entry and processing tasks daily.

Maintains a working knowledge of admissions processing procedures.

Assists with high-level tasks such as international recruitment, data tracking, and any additional tasks that may be assigned.

Involvement in all aspects of in-person and virtual (online) recruitment work for assigned territories, such as representing the College at college fairs, high school visits (locally, nationally and/or internationally).

Conducting interviews and group information sessions with prospective students and families.

Evaluating admissions applications and recommending admission decisions.

Developing and maintaining relationships with students, parents/guardians and schools/community-based organization/independent counselors, as well as international recruiting agencies or institutional partners.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
General supervision is received from the Director of International Admissions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree

Valid Michigan driver’s license

Experience and ability to positively interact with a diverse campus community.

Ability to navigate campus/public buildings and grounds.

Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds without assistance.

Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.

Willingness to travel domestically and/or internationally on occasion, including overnight stays.

Flexibility to work a schedule that may include evenings, weekends, or travel as needed.

Ability to work independently while engaging as a member of inter-office teams.

Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to address large groups of students and/or adults.

Ability to plan and organize a multifaceted personal and team workload.

Demonstrate high level of initiative, enthusiasm, and perseverance.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new software quickly.

Ability to load and transport admissions materials, displays, and other equipment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in international student admissions, recruiting, or advising.
