JOB SUMMARY:

The Saginaw Valley State University Nursing Simulation Center is located on the first floor of the Health and Human Services building. The 11,426 square foot Center enhances experiential learning by supporting diverse learning needs through simulated activities and innovative teaching methodologies. The Simulation Center is accredited in Teaching and Education through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. The Nursing Simulation Center Coordinator is responsible for the daily operations of the Nursing Simulation Center.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develops the nursing simulation center budget and makes recommendations for equipment purchases to maintain standards essential for effective instruction to the Nursing department and to the Dean.
• Oversees the development of policies and procedures for simulation center activities that provide effective learning experiences and safe practice.
• In conjunction with IT personnel, prepares and maintains simulation equipment, media, computers, and materials related to simulation learning in various health care settings.
• Collaborates with faculty and Simulation Center staff in designing, planning, implementing, and evaluating simulation education, lab activities, and curriculum materials to support student achievement of nursing program outcomes.
• Plans, implements, and evaluates simulation activities in accordance with program and accreditation policies, course objectives and program outcomes.
• Serves as an expert resource to faculty in developing simulation in the classroom, and simulation center.
• Responsible for overseeing the general operation of a wide variety of patient simulation experiences.
• Promotes an optimal learning environment in all simulation areas for all participants and facilitators, runs simulation events as needed, and provides support to students, faculty, and simulation educators using simulation.
• Maintains safety standards regarding the use of equipment and hazardous waste disposal.
• Evaluates effectiveness of the simulation center operations and makes recommendations to the Dean for improvement.
• Directs and maintains inventory of supplies to support all instruction in the simulation center and provides direction for all support staff including student mentors.
• Serves as a member of the Department of Nursing Curriculum Committee, works closely with nursing faculty and reports to the Dean of the College of Health and Human Services.
• Chairs the Nursing Simulation Program Committee.
• The Simulation Coordinator maintains Simulation Center to meet regulation and accreditation standards.
• Meet with Dean and Assistant Dean to discuss adjunct simulation staff needs.
• Hire adjunct simulation staff and provide contract information to Dean’s Secretary prior to each semester.
• Communicate student mentor needs and request approval to post positions.
• Post student mentor positions, interview student mentor, and with other full-time lab specialists and faculty feedback, determine which student mentors will be hired.
• Conducts evaluations of adjunct simulation staff and student mentors at the end of each semester and provides recommendations to continue employment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

General supervision is received from the Dean of the College of Health and Human Services

SUPERVISION EXERCISED :

Functional supervision is exercised over student employees and part time clinical instructors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• MSN, experience with simulation
• License to practice nursing in Michigan
• Teaching experience, experience in supervising personnel or administration.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new software quickly.
• Experience and ability to positively interact with a diverse campus community.
• Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodations.

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator
