JOB SUMMARY: SVSU is looking for a highly dynamic, dedicated and passionate individual to inspire next year’s class of students. Individuals will engage prospective students and their families in one-on-one meetings (both virtual and in-person), present to large groups, host counselor update meetings and more. This position will be based in Eastern Central Michigan (Macomb, Lapeer, or St. Clair County preferred).
This is a part-time position averaging 29 hours per week with peak periods in October/November and March/April. While medical benefits are not included, employees in this role will accrue vacation and sick time on a pro-rated basis. The position runs from August 15th to May 15th, with limited-to-no work available throughout the summer months.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work closely with the Director and other Admission staff to implement a recruitment plan to achieve SVSU's enrollment goals.
- Take SVSU’s inspiring and inclusive message throughout Eastern Central Michigan (Macomb County and Thumb Area) by traveling to high schools and attending various student receptions and activities on behalf of SVSU. Significant travel will be required during the months of September, October, November, March, and April, in addition to sporadic travel at other times.
- Join and participate in regional admission and community organizations and coordinate SVSU participation at local events including Local College Access Networks (LCANs) and college exploration events.
- Collaborate with the Alumni Relations Office to increase involvement of SVSU alumni to support awareness and recruitment efforts in Eastern Central Michigan.
- Conduct in-person and virtual appointments and recruitment events through various technological platforms year-round.
- Create and maintain collaborative relationships with guidance counselors, parents and students from first point of contact through final enrollment.
- Support high school counselors, administrators, prospective students and parents in a friendly manner through prompt and consistent communication.
- Review and evaluate application-related materials and maintain student records.
- Accurately enter all necessary data into an electronic contact management system to produce a log of inquiries and direct student follow-up through text, phone and email channels.
- Coordinate follow-up communication campaigns with students, parents and counselors throughout the year.

Participate in the development and implementation of multi-faceted, outreach-related events and activities.
- Participate in on-campus admission events when requested (ie. Open house events, high school recruitment events, etc.)
- Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of SVSU academic programs and offerings.
- Participate in division-related programs and services when requested.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Admissions.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Valid Michigan driver’s license
- Experience and ability to positively interact with diverse student populations and groups.
- Ability to work independently while engaging as a member of the Admissions team.
- Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to address large groups of students and/or adults.
- Ability to plan and organize a multifaceted personal and team workload.
- Demonstrate high level of initiative, enthusiasm, and perseverance.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes evenings, weekends, and statewide travel.
- Ability to load and transport admissions materials, displays and other equipment.
- Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in college admissions or with high school audiences is preferred.
- Direct knowledge and experience with SVSU is preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Duties are generally performed inside and not exposed to adverse conditions.
- Duties require automobile travel which includes exposure to varying weather conditions.
