Senior Commissioning Technician DC Fast Charging & EVSE
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Senior Commissioning Technician to join our team and support the deployment of DC Fast Charging Equipment (DCFC) and Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE). The successful candidate will be responsible for commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting high-power charging stations from leading manufacturers such as BTC, ABB, Signet, Alpitronic, Tritium, and others. This role requires a strong understanding of electrical systems, network configurations, and industry standards to ensure seamless operation and compliance with safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Commissioning & Testing:
- Conduct initial power-up, testing, and validation of charging stations.
- Perform software and firmware updates as needed.
- Verify network connectivity and communication with backend systems.
- Conduct functional tests to ensure compliance with performance and safety standards.
- Validate proper installation of hardware components according to manufacturer guidelines.
- Work closely with engineering and project management teams to resolve any commissioning issues.
Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure installations meet local, national, and industry safety regulations (e.g., NEC, IEC, OSHA).
- Perform grounding, surge protection, and electrical safety checks.
- Follow proper lockout/tagout (LOTO) and safety procedures during work.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement necessary safety measures during commissioning activities.
Technical Support & Troubleshooting:
- Diagnose and resolve equipment malfunctions, including electrical, software, and network-related issues.
- Provide technical support to customers and internal teams during commissioning and early operation phases.
- Work closely with manufacturers and engineering teams to resolve complex technical challenges.
- Utilize diagnostic tools to analyze performance issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Provide feedback on recurring issues to enhance equipment reliability and performance.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain detailed records of commissioning procedures, configurations, and test results.
- Prepare and submit commissioning reports and service logs.
- Provide feedback on recurring issues to improve product and service quality.
- Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) and best practices for commissioning processes.
Training & Customer Support:
- Train customers and field technicians on the proper use and maintenance of EVSE equipment.
- Provide on-site and remote support as required.
- Assist in developing training materials and documentation for end-users.
- Conduct training sessions for operators and maintenance teams to ensure optimal equipment performance.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education & Experience:
- Associates or Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, or a related field (preferred but not required).
- 2 years of experience in electrical installations, commissioning, or maintenance of EV charging stations, industrial equipment, or similar electrical systems.
- Experience working with high-voltage systems, power electronics, or renewable energy systems is a plus.
- Previous experience in field service or commissioning roles is preferred.
- Substantial travel, must be able to travel.
Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, wiring, circuit protection, and power distribution.
- Familiarity with EVSE communication protocols (OCPP, Modbus, CAN, TCP/IP, etc.).
- Experience with network troubleshooting, firmware updates, and remote monitoring systems.
- Ability to use electrical testing tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and insulation resistance testers.
- Knowledge of PLC programming and industrial automation is an advantage.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.

Certifications & Licensing (Preferred):
- Licensed Electrician or Journeyman (if required by region).
- OSHA 10/30 Certification.
- EVSE Manufacturer-specific training/certifications (ABB, Tritium, etc.).
- First Aid/CPR Certification.
- Valid drivers license and ability to travel to various project sites.
Work Conditions & Physical Requirements:
- Ability to travel frequently for on-site commissioning and support.
- Work in outdoor and indoor environments, sometimes under adverse weather conditions.
- Lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Work at heights or in confined spaces as necessary.
- Flexibility to work extended hours and weekends when necessary to meet project deadlines.
