We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Computer Operator III to join our talented team. In this role, you will be responsible for advanced system monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting of complex computer systems, often including intricate configurations and backup procedures, requiring a high level of technical expertise, strong problem-solving abilities, and excellent attention to detail to ensure smooth operation and data integrity.

Work is performed on site in Norfolk, VA and Virginia Beach, VA.

This position is contingent upon award news Spring of 2026.

Key Responsibilities:

• Continuously monitor system performance, resource utilization, and identify potential issues through logs and alerts to proactively address problems before they impact operations.
• Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues related to hardware, software, network connectivity, and system configurations, often requiring in-depth knowledge of operating systems and system architecture.
• Implement and manage complex backup strategies, including data archiving, ensuring timely and reliable backups of critical data, and testing restore procedures.
• Identify bottlenecks and optimize system performance through configuration adjustments, resource allocation, and capacity planning.
• Implement and maintain system security protocols, monitor for suspicious activity, and manage user access controls to protect sensitive data.
• Maintain detailed documentation of system configurations, operational procedures, and incident reports for reference and troubleshooting purposes.
• Work closely with network administrators, system analysts, and other IT staff to resolve technical issues, implement updates, and coordinate system changes.
• Lead and train junior computer operators and team members.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

• High School diploma or GED.
• Four (4) years of progressive experience in computer systems operations.; Three (3) years of practical experience in data entry and formatting via common productivity tools such as Microsoft Office Suite. ***Note: Experience may be concurrent.
• Proficiency in operating various computer systems and peripherals.
• Knowledge of computer report preparation and batch job processing.
• Understanding of system and database backups.
• Ability to run batch programs according to established guidelines.
• Ability to identify and resolve system and equipment malfunctions.
• Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose problems.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Ability to work under moderate supervision.

Required Security Clearance:

• Must possess or be able to obtain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance.
  • Active Interim Secret or final Secret clearance is preferred.
