Compliance Advisor
Job Overview : Our client is seeking to add a new Compliance Advisor to their team. The Compliance Advisor is responsible for providing expert guidance on employee benefits compliance, with an emphasis on the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), health and welfare benefits, executive benefits, and retirement plans. This role works closely with internal teams—including sales, service, and leadership—to ensure clients receive benefits offerings that comply with applicable federal and state laws and regulations.
This is a Direct Hire role.
What you will be doing as a Compliance Advisor…
- Offer expert legal advice on ERISA-related compliance for health, welfare, and retirement benefit plans.
- Interpret federal statutes such as ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, and COBRA to ensure adherence to compliance requirements, best practices, and product development.
- Draft, review, and evaluate legal documents related to benefit plans, including Summary Plan Descriptions (SPDs), plan documents, trust agreements, contracts, and insurance products.
- Advise on fiduciary responsibilities, participant rights, regulatory filings (e.g., Form 5500), plan audits, and governance best practices.
- Monitor regulatory changes, case law, and proposed legislation, providing proactive compliance strategies and updates to leadership and internal teams.
- Support employee benefit compliance in corporate transactions (e.g., mergers and acquisitions) by identifying and resolving benefit plan issues.
- Provide training and educational resources for internal teams on ERISA compliance and benefits administration while delivering updates through presentations, newsletters, and client communications.
- Address ERISA-related disputes, including claims denials and eligibility issues, while identifying and mitigating potential litigation risks.
- Collaborate with departments such as HR, Compliance, and Finance on benefit plan design, implementation, and ongoing management.
- Develop internal policies and procedures to ensure adherence to ERISA, tax regulations, and other federal and state compliance requirements.
