Overview : The Lead Estimator is a pivotal role that encompasses business development, client engagement, and extensive bid document reviews. You will conduct precise and thorough quantity take-offs, secure subcontractor and vendor pricing, and prepare accurate cost estimates and bid documents specifically for heavy civil construction and underground utility projects. Your expertise in cost evaluations, risk management, and successful bid submissions will be crucial in winning competitive projects for our organization.
Location & Travel Details : This is a hybrid position requiring occasional travel to our corporate office in Birmingham, AL, as well as trips to various jobsite locations.

Responsibilities :
- Review bid requirements to ensure comprehensive documentation.
- Participate actively in pre-bid meetings, site tours, and bid reviews.
- Coordinate takeoff drawings and obtain subcontractor and vendor pricing.
- Establish and maintain relationships with subcontractors and vendors, ensuring timely and accurate bid completions.
- Assist in preparing bid packages for subcontractor quote selection.
- Review project drawings to identify and highlight areas of concern.
- Report risks and special considerations to the lead estimator for profit evaluation.
- Contribute to project schedule and work plan development.
- Review estimates with project developers and area managers before job commencement.
- Assist project managers in preparing project budgets.
- Support project managers in estimating project changes as needed.
- Identify cost-effective methods for project estimating.
- Confirm the accuracy and completeness of final bid packages before formal submission.
- Provide technical assistance in contract negotiations and change orders as necessary.
- Complete additional tasks as requested by the Director of Pre-Construction.
