What are the responsibilities and job description for the Volleyball Coach position at Saint Andrew's Parish in Saratoga, California?
Job Overview:
The Coach is responsible for assisting in all aspects of the teams’ practice and play in games. While most participants will have previous experience, the Coach will lead athletes through drills, team bonding, provide leadership skills, discussions on strategies, and resolve conflicts. During games, the Coach will be directing and providing feedback to the athletes, strategizing and praising good sportsmanship.
Spring season will be March through May 2025
Coach Code of Conduct
The primary goal of coaches should be the development of students to be better student athletes. The participants must be taught sportsmanship and fair play, and these teachings should always govern their behavior while at practice and at games. Coaches shall be responsible for the conduct of the team, members of the coaching staff and themselves at all home and away games.
Improper conduct or violation of the Mission, Philosophy or Coaching Ethics and Conduct of Saint Andrew’s Episcopal School may result in penalties, expulsion, or suspension from the program as described below. All compliance infractions will be reviewed by the Director of Programs, Assistant Director, and or other Administrators for appropriate actions.?
- The coach is responsible to teach participants the importance of developing a competitive spirit and an understanding of sportsmanship.?
- The coach will strive to make every program activity serve as a training ground for life, and as a basis for good mental and physical health.?
- The coach will be responsible for building the confidence of the participants and teach the fundamentals of the sport they are coaching.?
- The coach will emphasize that good athletes are good students, and both are physically and mentally alert.?
- The coach will emphasize that winning a game or competition is the result of teamwork.?
- The coach will fairly evaluate and play all the participants through the course of a practice or game, and subject to specific league rules.?
- The coach will not show favoritism towards a family member and/or a participant, nor will the coach have an alternate agenda when evaluating, playing, or instructing a participant.?
- The coach shall not use abusive or profane language before anyone connected with any program activity.?
- The coach will refrain from “showing-up” an opponent during games or competitions.?
- The coach will set an example in personal conduct at all times.
- The coach will treat each player, opposing coach, parent, administrator and board member with respect and dignity.?
- The coach will be a good role model.?
- The coach will follow the direction of the Summer Director and Summer Assistant Director when necessary and not deviate for any reason.
- The coach will be responsible for the positive promotion of the program.
- The coach will learn the strengths and weaknesses of his/her participants so they might be placed into situations where they have a maximum opportunity to achieve success.?
- The coach will protect the health and safety of his/her participants by insisting that all of the activities under his/her control be conducted for their psychological and physiological welfare, rather than the interests of adults.
- The coach shall not be under the influence of alcohol or dangerous drugs.?
- The coach will abstain from possession and drinking of alcoholic beverages or?
- any illegal substance during camp.?
- The coach will not smoke or use any form of tobacco while on the field of play during camp.?
- The coach will inform the Director and Assistant Director of any concerns that relate to players in a timely manner.
- The coach will receive support or counsel from the Director and Assistant Director.?
In situations where a participant is not attending practices or games, off-task during?practice or games, or not acquiring skills being taught, I will follow the established?procedures outlined by Saint Andrew’s Episcopal School, including communication?with the Director and Director Assistant Implementation of appropriate consequences. These situations are outlined below:??
- Contact the parent to determine if the player has quit or has a legitimate reason.?
- Work with parent/student to see if child can attend practices consistently once per?week.??

Responsibilities and Duties: these are not written to be all inclusive nor limited to
- Organize the team practices, teaching drills, concepts and strategy
- Organize players to participate in games and coach them during the games
- Provide a safe and enjoyable environment for all players, given each athlete an equal opportunity to participate
- Communicate effectively with the Director of Athletics on processes and policies
- Serve as a positive role model to players, parents, officials, and fellow coaches by following all rules, demonstrating good sportsmanship
- Communicate good health and fitness principles and positive character development concepts to players, parents, and spectators
- Responsible for equipment needed during the season
- Collaborate with other coaches about skill development and best practices
- Attend practices, games, coach’s workshops, meetings and events
- Other related duties assigned by Supervisor
Qualifications:
- Prior experience in coaching or prior athlete in this sport at a high level; high school, college, or professional level
- Available weekday afternoons and possible weekends
- Ability to attend off-site games
- Eligibility to work in the USA; we are unable to provide sponsorship
- Pass background check and provide negative TB test
- Current Bloodborne Pathogen, First Aid & CPR certifications or able to attain within the first 3 months of employment

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to visually monitor the room/outdoor space and students?
- Prolong standing up to and above 80% of time. Includes sitting, squatting, reaching, and kneeling.?
- Climb stairs and navigate sloping terrain
- Ability to move equipment/boxes and ability to lift up to 25lbs.?
Work Environment:
- Navigate 10 acres of land with multi surfaces, multi-level with transitions
- Surfaces including wood, linoleum, grass, concrete, dirt, gravel.?
- Sustain loud noises for a minimum of 50% of time depending on activities?
- Sustain indoor artificial lighting for 80% of time or higher depending on activities, backlit monitors
- Able to handle outdoor weather including bright sun to rain, and temperature from cold to hot
