What are the responsibilities and job description for the SAH RN Educator position at Saint Anne's Hospital?
The clinical educator position encompasses the following functional components: (1) clinician (2) educator (3) EBP supporter/researcher (4) consultant (5) role model change agent and (6) leader. The goal of the clinical educator is to improve patient care by teaching coaching role modeling mentoring and leading nursing practice.
Clinical
- Serves as a clinical and quality resource to Day Surgery/PACU staff and Leaders.
- Collaborates with staff nurses and techs to assess plan direct and evaluate patient care.
- Promotes collaboration among healthcare disciplines to improve the quality of patient care.
- Demonstrates safe and effective use of equipment.
Education
- Orients new nursing staff and techs through teaching and demonstration.
- Collaborates with the director clinical manager and preceptor to support new Day Surgery/PACU staff during unit orientation.
- Orients and supports clinical faculty and students.
- Teaches and supports the use of technology.
- Coaches and supports the practice development of Day Surgery/PACU staff.
- Coordinates and teaches American Heart Association classes (BLS BLS instructor ACLS ACLS instructor PALS PALS instructor other as needed).
- Collaborates with director clinical manager surgeons and Day Surgery/PACU staff to determine educational needs and provides education based on needs.
- Uses appropriate teaching techniques based on education assessment.
- Facilitates the involvement of Day Surgery/PACU staff in patient and staff education.
- Collaborates with approved vendors to set up in-services as needed.
EBP/Research
- Promotes and facilitates evidence-based practice among Day Surgery/PACU staff and leaders.
- Integrates research into own practice.
- Assists staff in identifying potential problems for nursing research.
- Conducts research and presents findings as needed.
Leadership (consultant role model change agent)
- Represents nursing practice throughout the organization by participating in appropriate committees and task forces.
- Participates in and leads nursing/surgical quality improvement.
- Participates in community activities in area of practice.
- Maintains an active clinical presence.
- Acts as a change agent for the improvement of patient care.
- Promotes guides and supports the professional development of Day Surgery/PACU staff.
- Assesses systems and collaborates with Day Surgery/PACU staff and leaders to effect change.
- Attends scheduled meetings and shares information as appropriate.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
Minimum Education Requirements: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN required MSN preferred.
Equipment/Software/Certification: Current Massachusetts RN license BLS ACLS PALS required. Instructor status for BLS ACLS PALS preferred (required within 12 months of start date). Applicable certification in specialty area preferred (required within 2 years).
EXPERIENCE:
At least two years of progressive experience in clinical practice nursing education or nursing management in a perioperative setting.
Strong leadership skills excellent communication skills and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Able to work effectively in a team environment
Ability to analyze data and make informed decisions
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Collaborates with Clinical Manager and/or Director of Surgical Services to lead best practice within service area.
Oversees and directs orientation for new hires within the assigned Perioperative area.
