High school graduate or equivalent. Preferred one year of training in a pathology laboratory and registry as a Histology Technician by the American Society of Clinical Pathologist.

- JOB SUMMARY
Previous experience in a pathology laboratory required.
Normal hospital environment. Close eye work. Hearing within normal range. Exposure to biological and mechanical hazards. Operates stain processor, tissue processor, embedder, microtome, water bath, oven, cryostat, centrifuge, microscope, blender, knife sharpener, lab refrigerators and freezers, computer terminals and printer, PC, phone and fax machine. Frequent sitting, standing and walking. Occasional bending. Lifting, carrying, pushing / pulling up to 50 lbs.
The Histology Technician will process, cut, and stain blocks of tissue for use in diagnosis and treatment of diseases and for post-mortem studies. The Histology Technician will perform and / or assist with routine QC, maintenance, trouble-shooting, instruction of new technicians and lab assistants, revision of procedures, implementation of new methodologies and routine filing and and retrieval of blocks, specimen slides, and reports as needed.
