What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bus Driver position at Saint Edwards School?
Transfer students to and from school and school activities in a safe and timely manner.
Transportation Duties
- Know and obey all laws and regulations that pertain to school bus drivers. This includes proper ways of making student stops and crossing railroads.
- Observe all school policies regarding supervision and transportation of students.
- Attend all training classes and/or drivers meetings for bus drivers and all other meetings that the school deems appropriate.
- Insure that all transported students observe all laws and policies set forth by the Head of School and the Director of Transportation.
- Instruct students about safe riding practices, including the safest way of loading and unloading at their particular stop. Monitor students on buses.
- Instruct and supervise emergency evacuation drills of the school bus.
- Fill fuel tanks of bus as needed in a safe and appropriate manner.
- Make daily pre-trip inspections of the bus being used, reporting any defects affecting the safety and/or operation of said bus to the Director of Transportation.
- Keep the bus clean and neat at all times.
- Report to the Director of Transportation or Dean of Students the following: misconduct on the part of any student while on the bus or under immediate supervision, complaints from students, parents or anyone that expresses such complaints.
- Display a cooperative and dignified attitude towards the school, parents and students, treating everyone with patience and consideration.
- Dress in appropriate school uniform during all working hours keeping it neat and clean
Preferred Qualifications:
- Must possess a valid Commercial Drivers License, class B, with an air brake, a passenger, and an S endorsement.
- Must have good communication skills and work well with children.
- Must pass an annual physical examination and a drug test. Must consent to a "random" drug test, which could happen each calendar quarter or at request of the supervisor.
- Must have minimal computer skills to clock in & out and to access email.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Drivers will be exposed to seasonal heat and cold or adverse weather while driving school buses, loading and unloading children, controlling traffic and inspecting equipment.
- Drivers will be exposed to fumes, dust, odors, petroleum products and ambient noise daily.

Drivers must be able to:
- Deal with stress from driving in difficult traffic environments, interacting with dissatisfied or abusive individuals in a positive manner.
- Deal with exposure to blood borne pathogens may occur.
- Exert 50 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
- Stoop, climb, stand for long periods of time, and perform physical labor, be physically mobile and have stamina to participate in activities which may be strenuous.
