JOB SUMMARY
The Orthopedic Technician performs a variety of patient care and activities and assists the provider and nursing staff to maintain the highest standard practice of care. The Orthopedic Technician is responsible for application and removal of casts including complex casting and orthopedic splints and devices. This position requires a fundamental knowledge of technical work with orthopedic bracing and casting related activities. Positions allocated to this level are responsible for application, modification, repair and fitting of a wide variety of casts, splints and braces. Casting activities include application of upper and lower extremity casts/splints from simple to complex using a variety of materials; arrange, assemble and adjust traction equipment; and apply and adjust braces and splints; remove sutures, staples, pins, and external fixators. The Orthopedic Technician will also assist in stocking and ordering of supplies. The position has a significant amount of patient contact and is typically involved in the team assessment of patient needs and fitting/finishing services of patients. The Orthopedic Technician ensures the proper maintenance, ordering of supplies/equipment and keeping inventory.
JOB DETAILS AND REQUIREMENTS
Type: Full Time (80 hours per 2 week pay period, with benefits)
Typical hours for this position: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED- required
- High School Diploma or GED- required
Certification & Licensures:
- BLS- required
Experience:
- Skilled in applying a variety of splints, use of casting supplies and materials, and evaluating problems with existing casts and splints- preferred
