Concrete Math Teacher Responsibilities
- Design and implement a standards-based math curriculum that uses manipulatives, visual tools, and interactive lessons to support student learning.
- Provide structured, small-group instruction (maximum of seven students) to build fundamental math skills.
- Help students transition from concrete to abstract mathematical thinking in a supportive and predictable learning environment.
- Use mini-lessons, guided practice, and differentiated instruction to ensure mastery of arithmetic, number systems, properties, and introductory algebra concepts.
- Assess student progress using ongoing and formative assessments to guide instruction.
- Foster a positive, confidence-building classroom environment where students feel supported in their learning.
- Collaborate with colleagues to align instruction with school-wide math goals and intervention strategies.
- Communicate regularly with parents to discuss student progress and provide strategies for continued growth at home.
- Engage in ongoing professional development opportunities to refine instructional techniques and intervention strategies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- A valid California State Teaching Credential (or in progress).
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Mathematics, Special Education, or a related field.
- Experience with hands-on, visual, and structured math instruction.
- Strong understanding of differentiated instruction and strategies for supporting diverse learners.
- A passion for helping students develop mathematical confidence in a small-group setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to working in partnership with parents and colleagues.
- Practicing Catholic (preferred)
Preferred:
- At least two years of experience teaching math or working in a math intervention role.
- Experience with STAR assessments and interpreting student data.
- Familiarity with multi-tiered intervention systems (MTSS, RTI) and supporting students with learning differences.
