Saint Ignatius College Prep invites applications for a full-time School Counselor position. The School Counselor is part of a team supporting students academically, socially and emotionally through their Saint Ignatius experience. Job Summary:
- Manage and support assigned student caseload and treat each student with individual care (cura personalis) in overcoming any obstacles to their learning or personal growth
- Meet with assigned students for the purpose of developing rapport and assessing the student’s progress
- Meet and communicate regularly with students experiencing academic difficulty or disciplinary problems
- Utilize consultative techniques as cases demand and make appropriate referrals when appropriate
- Contribute to regular, productive communication and learning among College Counselors, Learning Specialists, and Formation and Ministry
- Attend and participate in departmental meetings
- Collaborate with department members on programmatic development and implementation
- Foster productive relationships with parents and guardians in support of holistic student development
- Model responsiveness with regards to parent phone calls, requests for appointments, etc. and initiate contact with teachers and/or parents when appropriate
- Participate in parent education programming, including support of periodic evening events
- Manage annual course registration processes for assigned student caseload
- Facilitate two Freshman Advisory sections
- Assist in providing a counselor presence on Kairos retreats
- Collaborate with broader faculty/staff community with regards to student life, programming, and beyond
- Participate and serve on school committees as applicable to individual skill set and school needs
- Continue to pursue professional development in the field of counseling
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree, Professional Educator License (PEL) with School Counselor or School Social Work Endorsement
- High school counselor experience preferred
- Proficiency to work with Microsoft Office applications, Google Workspace, and other applicable software
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with high school students, faculty/staff, and parents/guardians
- Self-directed with proven skills to assume responsibility and complete projects independently, including the ability to prioritize and complete tasks/job responsibilities
- Readiness to work collaboratively with department members and faculty/staff
- Skilled at managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Commitment to furthering the Jesuit, Catholic Mission and identity of the school
- Practicing Roman Catholic, preferred
Additional Information:
- School Counselors reports directly to the Director of School Counseling
- The School Counseling office consists of the Director of School Counseling, School Counselors, and School Therapist.
- This is a salaried full-time, school-year (10 months plus 2 weeks) in-person staff position.
- Employees are expected to work as many hours as their job responsibilities require, which includes evenings and weekends at times.
- This position is eligible for Saint Ignatius College Prep’s excellent benefits package.
- This is not a telecommuting position.
Salary Range: $60,000-$80,000
