What are the responsibilities and job description for the Vice Principal position at Saint John Paul II Catholic Academy?
Saint John Paul II Catholic Academy is a Preschool through Grade 8 school, located on multiple campuses in the Dorchester neighborhood of the City of Boston, that dynamically prepares children for life in the 21st century. Our Academy strives to create an atmosphere where the Gospel message is proclaimed, community in Christ is experienced, service to our brothers and sisters is the norm and thanksgiving and worship of God is reverently and joyfully celebrated. The role of the Assistant Principal is to assist and support the Principal in the administrative duties and functions of the school. They include but are not limited to the following:
Administration:
- Reports directly to the principal
- Serves as a member of the leadership team to develop and implement the total school program including school culture, instruction and family and community partnerships
- Leads and supports professional development around leadership, instruction and school culture
- Supports the leadership and leadership development of the adult community
- Supports principal and leadership team in handling disciplinary issues using the discipline policy in Student Handbook
- Monitor the implementation of school rules
- Attends events outside of school hours to support the life and vitality of school culture
- Develops and nurtures relationships with families through daily presence at drop off, arrival, dismissal and school events
- Is culturally competent and acts as a liaison between school and families
- Supervises and coaches assigned faculty, including timely feedback and goal setting
- Maintains relationships with exterior networks and partners to support the growth of the school
- Utilizes feedback and professional development to continue to grow in own leadership
- Promotes and maintains open communications, positive student attitudes, respects dignity, worth of staff, students, and complies with established lines of authority
- Performs daily duties including greeting, morning assembly when necessary
- Daily Lunch Duty is expected
- Daily Dismissal Duty is expected
- Walk outside perimeter of building after morning assembly daily is expected
- Assists principal in maintaining an understanding of Individual Education Plans
- Attends IEP meetings as necessary
- Tracks data related to current & expiring IEP’s
- Tracks implementation and services being received under Proportionate Share and/or a student’s IEP
- Participates in Student Support Team meetings
- Assists principal in maintaining accurate and current records relating to students’ primary language and proficiency as English Language Learners
- Performs all other duties assigned by principal
- Works when needed with Parent Corps
- Works in to support and in collaboration with regional staff of Saint John Paul II Catholic Academy and local parishes
- Assuming responsibility for the school and making necessary administrative decisions in the absence of the principal in consultation with the Regional Director when necessary
- Representing the principal at administrative meetings when necessary
- Serves as the authority in the building in the absence of the principal
- Supervises all teachers in regularly scheduled classroom observations
- Works with teachers to make maximum use of classroom aides
- Supports the Enrollment Process with tours, data entry and working with families
Instruction:
- Supports coaching and instruction of curriculum in all grades (PreK - Grade 8)
- Supervises a designated group of teachers with weekly observations and feedback
- Uses teacher evaluation rubric to set goals with teachers and support growth
- Tracks observations, face to face feedback and teacher implementation of feedback
- Supports data cycle implementation
- Sets and works toward measurable goals of teacher effectiveness
- Reviews and gives regular feedback on teacher lesson plans
- Schedules, plans, and leads data driven instruction professional development with Academy through PDI (Saint John Paul II Professional Development Institute) or at school
- Administers MAP testing and tracks data including review of testing data within 24 hours of administration
- Work in partnership with the MAP and coaches to support implementation and use of data and ordering of supplies
- Work in partnership with Academy coaches and Formation Director
- Supports the Academic and Spiritual Goals of the Academy
