About the job:
Responsible for developing and coordinating an effective Infection Control Program ensuring protection of the patient, the health care worker, visitors and patients in the healthcare environment. Responsible for the detection, monitoring and reporting of nosocomial infections. Acts as a liaison to the local Health Department.


What you will do:

  • Infection Control Program. Develops and implements an Infection Control Plan including a surveillance schedule, a reporting schedule and program goals.
  • Facilitates the Infection Control and Employee Health Action Team and Facilitates PI teams when opportunities to improve the infection control processes are identified.
  • Performs detection, monitoring and reporting of nosocomial infections on a systematic and current basis.
  • Annually reviews policies and procedures related to infection control.
  • Enters surveillance data into the hospital quality management system for aggregation.
  • Identifies and reviews cases with active or suspected infections and observes potential infectious hazards, (i.e. environmental cleanliness and compliance with Universal Precaution / Body Substance Isolation policy.)
  • Performs analysis of nosocomial infections for trends. Monitors infection related occurrences.
  • Liaison to local health department in reporting required infectious diseases identified within SJHS, Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee (Antibiotic Committee), Employee Health Nurse relative to colleague health needs, clinical departments related to infection control needs, all areas performing sterilization / disinfection cleaning procedures / agents, purchasing of equipment / supplies used for patient care infection control or sterilization / decontamination purposes.
  • Orientation Educator. Educator in NAO, clinical orientation, new residents, the medical staff and annual review with all clinical departments per schedule. Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.


Requirements:

Education: Knowledge in a wide range of clinical acute care areas (diagnoses and procedures) normally acquired by completing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. 5 years experience in acute care setting is required. Knowledge of infectious disease, epidemiology and biostatistics normally acquired through 3-5 years' experience in a hospital setting. Knowledge of regulatory requirements of the health department, CDC, and ISDH normally acquired through 3-5 years' experience in the healthcare infection control / employee health field.

Licensure: Indiana RN license required.

Experience: Previous experience in an infection control program in a hospital setting preferred. Working knowledge of data collection and integrity processes, state and federal regulations. Experience in data analysis with emphasis on interpretation for use by clinical staff. Experience in working with nursing and medical staff in collaborative manner, normally in a committee/team setting.
