Position Summary:

Primary responsibility include environmental regulatory compliance for SJMHS, serves as the Safety Officer at Trinity Health Muskegon and provides system guidance to the safety programs at Trinity Health Muskegon for the JCAHO Environment of Care Standards.
What the Environment of Care Leader will need:
- Bachelor’s degree in health education or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Three to Five years progressively more responsible related work experience.
- Knowledge of current law and regulations as they apply to Health Care Facilities
- Interpersonal and analytical skills necessary to interact effectively with hospital personnel and analyze program effectiveness
- Assure all environmental regulatory requirements are met across the system through the development, implementation and monitoring of system wide and unit specific policy and procedure to assure compliance with regulatory law.
- Has primary responsibility to represent the health System to the environmental regulatory community (USEPA, USDOT, Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Division, MDEQ, Washtenaw County Environment and Infrastructure, YCUA, County Pollution Prevention Program, etc). Will accompany inspectors on regulatory inspection tours of MHM facilities, will follow up with departments to correct deficiencies, document corrective measures and prepare written responses to regulatory entities.
- Assure compliance with federal, state and local regulatory permitting, reporting and record keeping requirements including the Air Use permitting and reporting program, MAERS report, State Tier II report, Muskegon County status report, Muskegon County Public Right to Know reporting program, RCRA hazardous waste reports and manifesting, solid waste reporting, etc.
- Prepares, updates and submits emergency plans as required by law including the Pollution Incident Prevention Plan, The Spill Control and Countermeasure Plan and Emergency Contingency plan.
- Manages the Hazardous Materials and Waste program including policy and procedure development and implementation, hazardous material reduction initiatives and, purchasing directives. The Safety Officer & Environmental Health Leader or qualified designee must remain on call at all times as required by law to respond to hazardous material incidents. Identifies opportunities and assists in the development of programs and initiatives to: eliminate environmental hazards, reduce the environmental impact of health system buildings and operations, and improve the level of environmental safety features for the facilities within MHM.
