Required Qualifications: Wyoming Licensed Practical Professional Nurse. A minimum of 21 years of age. Ability to lift 50 pounds. Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining intermediate certification in the Mandt System® of nonphysical and physical intervention with aggressive youth.

Job Summary: Responsible to assess and provide for the health, safety and nutritional needs of the residents of St. Joseph's Children's Home.

Resident and staff privacy and confidentiality is protected at all times. Minimum necessary access to resident and staff records and information is assigned based on the job duties and responsibilities outlined below.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Completes a nursing assessment on each new resident and provides a written report within seven days of admission, as assigned.

• Schedules appointments for residents with the consulting psychiatrist and transcribes, implements and distributes doctors’ orders.

• Serve as a liaison between St. Joseph's and outside medical providers such as doctors, pharmacists, or other health care providers.

• Provides first-aid to residents, makes assessments and recommendations for any follow-up care. Assists in the transportation of residents for medical care as needed.

• Makes assessments and recommendations on resident health issues as needed.

• Monitors any special dietary requirements during a resident’s stay.

• Administers TB tests to all staff, as required, and Hepatitis B shots at staff request.

• Participates as a member of the treatment team when appropriate.

• Trains staff in Red Cross CPR and First Aid, as assigned.

• Destroys medication which has expired or has been discontinued by the physician as per policy and for the disposal of hazardous waste materials such as sharps and body fluids.

• Places telephone orders to pharmacy, laboratories, etc., as ordered by the physician.

• Documents all nursing interventions with residents and communicates information to the living unit.

• Provides education to residents and families on prescribed medications prior to discharge.

• Provides notification to resident’s guardian on all new psychotropic medications prescribed by physician.

• Performs monthly weights on all residents.

• Attends meetings as required, including but not limited to General Staff.

• Maintains WY licensure in good standing and remains current in required continuing education hours established by the State of Wyoming.

• Ensures the mission of St. Joseph's, including the spiritual formation of residents, is an integral part of the healing process.

• Performs others duties as may be assigned.
