What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Pastoral Care position at Saint Joseph Villa?
SUMMARY OF JOB:
Responsible for overseeing, in collaboration with the Pastoral Care team, the design, coordination and implementation of all spiritual and pastoral services throughout the Villa community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Exemplifies the mission, vision and values of Saint Joseph Villa by promoting the Mission in all the interactions and activities of the Pastoral Care department.
- Oversees the design, coordination and implementation of all spiritual and pastoral services throughout the Villa community, which includes:
- Sacraments
- Liturgical planning
- Seasonal prayer services
- Outside funerals of Sisters and Lay Residents
- Jubilees
- Memorial masses
- National celebrations
- Nursing Home Week
- Villa retreats
- Scheduling of Lectors and Extraordinary Ministers
- Fosters good communication with the Pastoral Team, Congregation, and other departments and staff at the Villa.
- Oversees and facilitates the administrative activities of the Department, which includes:
- Banking, budget and check writing
- Interviews with incoming residents
- Arrange dining room seating
- Arrange visitor hospitality
- Represents the Department at Department Head meetings and facilitates the flow of information between the Department and the Administration of the Villa.
- Supervises the Pastoral Care staff.
- Facilitates congregational experiences, which includes:
- CCR
- Congregational meetings
- Coordination of travel for congregational functions
- Liaison with Council
- Scheduling of Area Delegate visits with Sister residents
- Communication for Chestnut Hill
- Guardian Houses—assigning and updating listing
- Outside retreats
- Develops relationships with residents and their families and regularly visits with each floor to better understand the unique needs of each unit.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director, as needed.
- Complete annual compliance and HIPAA training and exhibit behavior as set forth by the Code of Compliance in the performance of their duties.
- Adheres to the Organizations Policies and Procedures regarding the Compliance Program of the organization and is timely in reporting any possible concerns.
- Follows all local, state and federal regulations as they pertain to their position
- Adhere to the Organization’s Policies and Procedures covering Privacy and Security in compliance with HIPAA regulations.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- A Bachelor’s Degree required. A Master’s Degree in Theology, Religious Studies, Pastoral Care, Spirituality or similar discipline is preferred.
- Clinical Pastoral Education: 4 units preferred, as well as management experience.
EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Experience in spiritual/pastoral ministry preferred
- Willing to engage in on-going education in this ministry
- Possess the ability to work with an interdisciplinary team and attend all resident care conferences as appropriate
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills
- Possess knowledge of or is willing to learn Catholic ethics, especially, the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Healthcare Service
- Strive to consistently deliver compassionate and professional care through his/her ministry on the Spiritual/Pastoral Care team
- Willing to adapt to changing priorities and needs within the department
